Miss International 1970
Miss International 1970, the 10th anniversary of the Miss International pageant, was held on May 16, 1970 at the Exposition Hall Fairgrounds in Osaka, Japan. 47 contestants competed for the pageant. Aurora Pijuan from Philippines was crowned Miss International 1970 at the end of the event by outgoing titleholder, Valerie Holmes from Britain. Aurora Pijuan
Aurora McKenney Pijuan (born November 11, 1949) is a Filipino beauty queen who was crowned Miss International 1970. Biography She comes from Bacolod and is a graduate of Saint Scholastica's College (batch 1967). A product of the 1970 Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant, Aurora was sent to Osaka, Japan to compete, and eventually win, Miss International 1970. Her victory paved the Philippines to become the first country to win consecutively twice. Pijuan went on to marry golfer and basketball coach Tomas Manotoc. The couple have two children, Mavis and Tomas Jr. ("TJ"). Manotoc obtained a divorce from Pijuan in the Dominican Republic and married Imee Marcos, daughter of then Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos, on December 4, 1981. Jacquie Perrin (born c. 1949) is a Canadian journalist. She was host of the CBC's ''Saturday Report'' and is current host of the Sunday 5:00 p.m. edition of CBC News: Today on CBC Newsworld. Valerie Susan Holmes (born November 1946) is a British model and beauty queen who was the 1969 winner of the Miss International beauty pageant. She was the first delegate from her country to win the competition. Valerie was born in November 1946 to Ernest and Phyllis Holmes of Winchmore Hill, a small suburb of London, England. She won the Miss Enfield contest in 1969. This victory paved the way for her to compete and eventually win the title of Miss Britain, and from that on, to take the crown at the Miss International contest of 1969.
