Miss Haiti is a national Beauty pageant in Haiti. The pageant was founded in 1920, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe. History Historically, the most notable contestants were Evelyn Miot and Gerthie David. On July 14, 1962, Evelyn Miot was the first black contestant to be one of the 15 semi-finalists in the Miss Universe Pageant. This was Miss Haiti's first international meet. Gerthie David competed in the Miss Universe Pageant in 1975 and placed in the finals, becoming runner up to Miss Finland, Anne Marie Pohtamo won the 1975 title. In 1975, Gerthie became the second black woman to be placed in the finals. In 1975 Joelle Apollon was declared Miss Haiti World to represent the country in Miss World Pageant, remaining as the fifth finalist, was the only time Haiti the sent a candidate a Miss World. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Miss Universe 2019
Miss Universe 2019 was the 68th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Stage 1 of the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on 8 December 2019. At the end of the event, Catriona Gray of the Philippines crowned Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa as Miss Universe 2019. It is South Africa's third win after 1978 and their recent victory in 2017. This edition also saw the crowning of the first black woman from the country to win and the first since Leila Lopes of Angola in 2011. Miss Universe 2012 was the 61st Miss Universe pageant, held at the PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on December 19, 2012. At the end of the event, Leila Lopes of Angola crowned Olivia Culpo of the United States as Miss Universe 2012. It is the United States' first victory in 15 years, and the eighth victory of the country— the most in the pageant's history. Christie Désir (born February 12, 1993) is a Haitian-American actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as Miss Haiti 2014 and competed at Miss Universe 2014 in the USA. Early life Desir was born in New York City and holds a BBA in Marketing and a Minor in Fashion Styling. She interned for Sean "Diddy" Combs while attending The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (L.I.M College). After graduating she worked at Universal Music Group, Interscope Records doing Branded Content and Partnerships, creating advertisement campaigns for artists under the label. Lisa Drouillard (born March 10, 1992) is a Haitian-American model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Haiti 2015 and competed at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. Personal life Drouillard went to high school at St. Joseph's High School in the United States and was crowned Miss New York Teen USA 2011. Raquel Pélissier
Raquel Pélissier (born August 21, 1991) is a Haitian model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Haiti 2016. She represented Port-au-Prince at the pageant and represented Haiti at Miss Universe 2016 where she ended as 1st Runner-Up, being the first Haitian delegate to place in the finals in 41 years, with their last placement being back in 1975. Personal life Pélissier was born in Haiti. At the age of three, Pélissier was in a twenty-one day coma, came out of it and was paralyzed for a week. She later survived the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
