Miss Europe 1980 was the 40th edition of the Miss Europe pageant and the 29th edition under the Mondial Events Organization. It was held at Puerto de la Cruz Park in Santa Cruz of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain on March 2, 1980. Karin Zorn of Austria, was crowned Miss Europe 1980 by out going titleholder Eva Maria Düringer of Austria. Miss Universe 1979
Miss Universe 1979, the 28th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 20 July 1979 at the Perth Entertainment Centre in Perth, Australia. Margaret Gardiner (beauty queen), Margaret Gardiner of South Africa crowned her successor Maritza Sayalero of Venezuela. This marks as the first time a woman from Venezuela won the pageant. It was the first time in the pageant's history that the event was held in Australia. Notably, a large piece of debris from Skylab, which had fallen nine days earlier, was displayed on stage during coronation night. Immediately after the telecast ended, part of the stage collapsed, with several of the contestants falling into a gap below the set; none of them were injured. Miss World 1979, the 29th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 15 November 1979 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. The winner was Gina Swainson from Bermuda. Miss Europe
Miss Europe is a beauty pageant for European women from all over Europe. It was established in February 1927 by Fanamet, the European distributor of Paramount, as a one-off event where the winner was to star in a film directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. After the initial twelve-person jury couldn't decide between 10 contestants, a runoff election was held where Murnau chose the winner.
