The Miss Dominican Republic 2007 pageant was held on March 22, 2007. That year only 20 candidates competed for the national crown. The chosen winner will represent the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 2007 pageant which was held in Mexico and at Reina Hispanoamericana 2007 pageant which was held in Bolivia. Massiel Indira Taveras Henríquez (born 7 July 1984 in Santiago de los Caballeros) is a Dominican presenter, designer, actress and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2007 and represented her country at Miss Universe 2007. Personal life Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Massiel is daughter of Damían Taveras and Carmen Henríquez de Taveras. She has six siblings, among them, the conductor of television and ex- queen of beauty Rita Isaura Taveras. She is a graduate of Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. Miss Universe 2007 was the 56th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico on May 28, 2007. At the end of the event, Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico crowned Riyo Mori from Japan as Miss Universe 2007. It is Japan's first victory in 48 years, and the second victory of the country in the pageant's history. Contestants from 77 countries and territories competed in this year's pageant.
