Miss Cuba
Miss Cuba is a national Beauty pageant in Cuba. History Miss Cuba was held for the first time in 1952 and the winner competed at the Miss Universe pageant. After 1967 Cuban stopped participating at Miss Universe. In 1956 Cuba made its debut at the Miss World pageant. After 1975 Cuban representatives at Miss World did not compete. In 2007 Cuba made its debut at the Miss Earth pageant in Manila, Philippines. In 2009 Cuba competed for the first time at Miss International in Japan. Cuba has been represented in the Big Four international beauty pageants, the four major international as well as minor international beauty pageants for women. These are Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth. Miss Universe In 1956 and 1957 Miss Cuba placed as Top 15 and 3rd Runner-up by Marcia Rodríguez and Maria Rosa Gamio. Beauty Pageant
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Miss Earth 2007
Miss Earth 2007, the 7th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, was held on November 12, 2007 at the University of the Philippines Theater, inside the campus of the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, Philippines. 30 delegates also visited Nha Trang, Vietnam. 88 delegates competed for the title, making 2007 the largest edition of delegates for Miss Earth. The pageant was hosted by MTV Asia VJ Greg Uttsada Panichkul, Priscilla Meirelles and Ginger Conejero. Hil Hernández from Chile crowned her successor Jessica Trisko from Canada the end of the event. Pooja Chitgopekar from India won her second consecutive Miss Air title (first runner-up). Silvana Santaella from Venezuela was proclaimed Miss Water (second runner-up). Miss Universe 1959, the 8th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 24 July 1959 at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. 34 contestants competed and in the end Akiko Kojima of Japan won the competition, becoming the first Asian woman to win the title. She was crowned by Luz Marina Zuluaga from Colombia. This was the last year that the pageant was held in Long Beach before it moved to Miami Beach, Florida in 1960, before the establishment of the Miss International pageant.
