"Mirror of Love" is a track from The Kinks' theatrical album, Preservation Act 2. It was written by Ray Davies. The Kinks
The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, north London, in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. ''Soap Opera'' or ''The Kinks Present a Soap Opera'' is a 1975 concept album by the Kinks. It is the fourteenth studio album by the Kinks. Development The material was initially developed for a Granada TV live teleplay in 1974, which was broadcast under the title ''Star Maker'', starring Ray Davies and June Ritchie as the leads, with the Kinks providing live accompaniment. ''A Soap Opera'' adapted the same songs and plot to an audio presentation, with Ritchie in the same role. Plans for a full-scale theatrical tour were not realised, but the Kinks, with their extended mid-70s lineup, did perform the entire album on tour in 1975. Though the album was not well-received, Dave Thompson, reviewing an unofficial bootleg recording, called the live presentation "a revelation". It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. ''Preservation Act 2'' is a 1974 concept album by the English rock band the Kinks, and their thirteenth studio album. It sold poorly (peaking on the ''Billboard'' Top LPs & Tape chart at No. 114), and received a mixed response among critics. Ken Emerson, in ''Rolling Stone'', held out the album as an "underrated" one in the Kinks' repertoire. Other critics were less charitable: ''The A.V. Club'' described it as "sprawling... with its radio announcements and melodramatic, sub-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical numbers, is a wash, the sound of a once-great band losing the plot." AllMusic referred to it as "a mess, an impenetrable jumble of story, theater, instrumentals, 'announcements,' unfinished ideas, guest singers, and, on occasion, a song or two."
