Mircea Dridea
Mircea Dridea (born 7 April 1937) is a Romanian former football player and manager, who is the current honorary president of Liga I club Petrolul Ploiești. Club career Mircea Dridea was born on 7 April 1937 in Ploiești and at age 15 he was a category one chess player, being brought by his brother Virgil to play football in 1952 at the junior squads of Petrolul Ploiești where his first coach was Emil Avasilichioaie, in 1954 he worked with Manole Rădulescu and in 1955 Traian Ionescu came to the club and formed a generation of juniors which included Dridea, Constantin Tabarcea and Vasile Sfetcu which reached the national junior championship final which was lost in front of Universitatea Cluj. He made his debut for the senior team under coach Ilie Oană in October 1956 in a 2–1 away victory against Rapid București. Ploiești
Ploiești ( , , ), formerly spelled Ploești, is a city and county seat in Prahova County, Romania. Part of the historical region of Muntenia, it is located north of Bucharest. The area of Ploiești is around , and it borders the Blejoi commune in the north, Bărcănești and Brazi communes in the south, Târgșoru Vechi commune in the west, and Bucov and Berceni communes in the east. According to the 2011 Romanian census, there were 201,226 people living within the city limits, making it the ninth most populous in the country. The city grew beginning with the 17th century on an estate bought by Michael the Brave from the local landlords, gradually taking the place of the nearby Wallachian fairs of Târgșor, Gherghița and Bucov. Its evolution was accelerated by heavy industrialisation, with the world's first systematic petroleum refinery being opened in 1856–1857. Traian Ionescu
Traian Ionescu (17 July 1923 – 4 October 2006) was a Romanian football goalkeeper and coach. Club career Traian Ionescu was born on 17 July 1923 in Văleni, Argeș County, Romania and started to play junior level football at age 13 at TC Târgoviște where he stayed until 1939. Afterwards he went to play for Sporting Club Pitești, Vulturii Textila Lugoj and Sportul Muncitoresc Găvana before arriving at Juventus București where he made his Divizia A debut on 6 April 1947, being used by coach Emerich Vogl in a 4–1 victory against Libertatea Oradea. In 1949 he was transferred by CCA București where he won the 1951 Divizia A, being used by coach Gheorghe Popescu I in 5 games, he also helped the team win three Cupa României but played in only one final in 1949 when coach Francisc Ronnay used him in the 2–1 victory against CSU Cluj. Siderurgistul Galați was a football club based in Galaţi, Galați County, Romania. It was founded in 1955 and dissolved in 1967. History In 1955 Dinamo Galați is founded and in 1961 the club was renamed CSO Galați, and one year later renamed again in Siderurgistul, with the following players: Dan, Câmpean, Lupea, Hulea, Stănescu, Dumitru Ionel, Coman I, Oprea, Costache, Militaru, Voicu, I. Gheorghe, Matei, Dărăban, Zagardan, David, Dragomir. In 1963 Siderurgistul promotes to the Divizia A and qualifies for the Romanian Cup final (1–6 against Petrolul Ploieşti). Fotbal Club Rapid 1923, commonly known as Rapid București () or simply as Rapid, is a Romanian professional football club based in Bucharest, which competes in the Liga I. Ilie Oană
Ilie Oană (16 August 1918 – 27 April 1993) was a football player and manager who represented and coached the Romania national football team. Career Oană was born in Indiana Harbor to Romanian parents who emigrated from Transylvania before the outbreak of World War I. In 1921, his parents moved back to their homeland, settling in Sibiu after the 1918 Union of Transylvania with Romania. Oană began his football career with local side Șoimii Sibiu. He joined Petrolul Ploiești in 1937. Because he was born in the United States, he was nicknamed "Americanul" ''(The American)''. Oană made two appearances for Romania, making his debut in a friendly which ended 2–2 against Hungary in October 1939. He also played in a 0–0 against Poland at the 1948 Balkan Cup. After he retired from playing, Oană became a football coach. ''Adevărul'' (; meaning "The Truth", formerly spelled ''Adevĕrul'') is a Romanian daily newspaper, based in Bucharest.
