Divizia A
The Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. The Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 campaign, being currently on the 29th place in UEFA's league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Before the 2006–07 season, the competition was known as ''Divizia A'', but the name had to be changed following the finding that someone else had registered that trademark. FC Steaua București
FC Steaua București was a Romanian professional football club of which two current entities are claiming the records. The original ''FC Steaua București'' team was part of the namesake CSA Steaua București sports club and belonged to the Ministry of National Defence. In 1998, the club and facilities were separated from the sports club and taken over by a group of shareholders in a post-Ceaușescu privatisation scheme, allegedly leading to one of the shareholders (Gigi Becali) acquiring full ownership five years later. However, CSA Steaua București sued the football club in 2011, claiming that this was a new entity; the two have since been in a legal conflict regarding the ownership of the Steaua brand and honours, which resulted in multiple court cases and the forced change of the name of ''FC Steaua București'' to FCSB in early 2017. Ion Neacșu (19 September 1930 – 10 May 1988) was a Romanian footballer. Alexandru Fronea (15 November 1933 – 10 April 2013) was a Romanian football defender who played for Romania in the 1960 European Nations' Cup. Club career He was a member of FC Petrolul Ploiești's "golden generation". He became national champion two times with Petrolul, in 1958 and 1959 and won the Romanian Cup in 1963. Vasile Sfetcu
Vasile Sfetcu (10 May 1937 - 16 September 2016) was a Romanian football goalkeeper and manager. Club career Vasile Sfetcu was born on 10 May 1937 in Ploiești, Romania, starting to play football at junior level in 1951 at local club, Metalul, afterwards going to play for Petrolul Ploiești where he made his Divizia A debut on 24 November 1954 in a 3–1 away loss against Metalul Hunedoara. He went to play one season for Metalul 1 Mai Ploiești in Divizia B, afterwards he returned at Petrolul where in the first two seasons he won two consecutive Divizia A titles in 1957–58 and 1958–59, being used by coach Ilie Oană in 17 matches in the first one and in 20 in the second one. Constantin Dinulescu (19 April 1931 – 1 February 2017) was a Romanian football forward who played for Romania in the 1960 European Nations' Cup. Ion Alecsandrescu (17 July 1928 – 21 June 2000) was the president of Steaua București during the team's golden era, between 1985 and 1989. His nickname was ''Sfinxul'' () and was recently declared as ''Steaua Bucharest's Man of the Century''. Nicolae Oaidă
Nicolae Oaidă (born 9 April 1933) is a Romanian former footballer and manager. Career Nicolae Oaidă was born in Bod, Brașov on 9 April 1933 and started playing football in 1946 at the youth center of Steagul Roșu Brașov, later in 1950 moving to Locomotiva Brașov. He made his Divizia A debut on 16 May 1954 playing for Dinamo Brașov in a 3–0 loss against Locomotiva Timișoara. After one season at Dinamo Brașov, Oaidă went to play for two seasons at Dinamo Bacău, managing to help the team earn a promotion to the first league in his first season spent there. In 1957 he went to play for Progresul București, a team where he would spend the rest of his career, playing for 12 seasons, including one in the second division, earning a total of 226 league appearances and 77 goals scored. Oaidă opened the score in the 2–0 victory against Dinamo Obor București in the 1960 Cupa României final, which helped Progresul win the first trophy in the club's history. He has a ... Mircea Dridea
Mircea Dridea (born 7 April 1937) is a Romanian former football player and manager, who is the current honorary president of Liga I club Petrolul Ploiești. Club career Mircea Dridea was born on 7 April 1937 in Ploiești and at age 15 he was a category one chess player, being brought by his brother Virgil to play football in 1952 at the junior squads of Petrolul Ploiești where his first coach was Emil Avasilichioaie, in 1954 he worked with Manole Rădulescu and in 1955 Traian Ionescu came to the club and formed a generation of juniors which included Dridea, Constantin Tabarcea and Vasile Sfetcu which reached the national junior championship final which was lost in front of Universitatea Cluj. He made his debut for the senior team under coach Ilie Oană in October 1956 in a 2–1 away victory against Rapid București. The 1959–60 Divizia B was the 20th season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The league was expanded from two series to three series of 14 teams. The 1959–60 European Cup was the fifth season of the European Cup, Europe's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Real Madrid, who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7–3 in the final at Hampden Park, Glasgow. It remains the record score for the European Cup final.
