Minsk–Kaliningrad Interconnection
Minsk–Kaliningrad Interconnection is a natural gas pipeline interconnection between Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, Lithuania and Belarus. Currently it is the only pipeline supplying natural gas to Kaliningrad Oblast. Lithuania has a contract with Gazprom on gas transit to Kaliningrad via pipeline until 2025. History In 2005, Gazprom built the Krasnoznamenskaya compressor station. In 2009 second line of the pipeline was finished, which allowed to expand maximum discharge up to 2.5 billion cubic metres annually. In 2016, a 25 km gas pipeline branch to Chernyakhovsk and an automated gas distribution station put into service. In October 2017, Gazprom completed the construction of two gas pipeline branches stretching to the towns of Gusev and Sovetsk. Chernyakhovsk (russian: Черняхо́вск) – known prior to 1946 by its German name of (Old Prussian: Instrāpils, lt, Įsrutis; pl, Wystruć) – is a town in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, where it is the administrative center of Chernyakhovsky District. Lithuania–Latvia Interconnection ( lt, Lietuvos-Latvijos dujotiekis, lv, Lietuvas–Latvijas gāzes vada starpsavienojums) is a natural gas pipeline which connects Lithuania and Latvia. History Gas pipeline from Lithuanian border to Iecava with the diameter of 500 mm was built in 1962. It is the oldest pipeline in Latvia. In 2013 construction works for enhancement of capacity of interconnection was finished. New discharge capacity will allow transmissions of 6.48 million cubic metres per day from Lithuania to Latvia and 6.24 million cubic metres per day from Latvia to Lithuania. Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania
Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL) is a gas pipeline between Poland and Lithuania. The pipeline was commissioned and started commercial operation on 1 May 2022. The length of the pipeline is and the natural gas can flow both directions. The pipeline will run from Jauniūnai natural gas compression station (GCS) in eastern Lithuania to the Hołowczyce GCS station in eastern Poland. Gaižiūnai
Gaižiūnai is a village in Jonava district municipality, Lithuania. It is situated on the Taurosta River, tributary of Neris, about southeast of Jonava and northeast of Kaunas. The railroad from Šiauliai forks into Kaunas and Vilnius near the village. Gaižiūnai is also known as a military base. Military base The old military training ground in Varėna could not be used by the Lithuanian Army as it was too close to the demarcation line with Poland and stirred Polish protests. Therefore in 1930 the army bought some of land, mostly pine forest, bog, and sandy soil unsuitable for agriculture. The new training grounds included an airfield, railway connection, and numerous buildings for the soldiers. Achema
Achema is the largest fertilizer producer in the Baltic states. It is located in the city of Jonava in central Lithuania. In 2011 Achema employed about 1700 workers and reached 2.2 billion Litas revenues (about 640 million Euros), net profit was 96.3 million Litas (27.9 million Euros). Gitanas Nausėda (born 19 May 1964) is a Lithuanian economist, politician and banker who is serving as the ninth and incumbent President of Lithuania since 2019. He was previously director of monetary policy at the Bank of Lithuania from 1996 until 2000 and chief economist to the chairman of SEB bankas from 2008 until 2018. Nausėda ran as an independent in the 2019 presidential election, which he won with over 66% of the vote in the runoff.
