Lithuania–Latvia Interconnection
Lithuania–Latvia Interconnection ( lt, Lietuvos-Latvijos dujotiekis, lv, Lietuvas–Latvijas gāzes vada starpsavienojums) is a natural gas pipeline which connects Lithuania and Latvia. History Gas pipeline from Lithuanian border to Iecava with the diameter of 500 mm was built in 1962. It is the oldest pipeline in Latvia. In 2013 construction works for enhancement of capacity of interconnection was finished. New discharge capacity will allow transmissions of 6.48 million cubic metres per day from Lithuania to Latvia and 6.24 million cubic metres per day from Latvia to Lithuania. The pipeline is linked with Estonia–Latvia Interconnection. Enhancement ELLI (Enhancement of Latvia-Lithuania interconnection) was included into the third PCI List adopted by the European Commission on 24 November 2017, in the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan Gas priority corridor. 2023 Lithuania–Latvia Pipeline Explosion
On 13 January 2023, an explosion occurred on the Lithuania–Latvia Interconnection in Pasvalio Vienkiemiai, Pasvalys District Municipality, Lithuania. At 16:57, Police department of Pasvalys District received the call about the fire in Pasvalio Vienkiemiai village. Flames reached up to 50 m in height and could be seen at a distance of at least 17 km. As a precaution the entire village of Valakėliai was evacuated. As a result Lithuania stopped natural gas transit to Latvia, while consumers in northern Lithuania were supplied by alternative pipelines. 18km of pipeline was disconnected from the main grid to allow gas to burn out. Firefighters extinguished the flames around 21:00 local time. By midnight Lithuania restored gas transit between Lithuania and Latvia at reduced capacity. Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania
Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL) is a gas pipeline between Poland and Lithuania. The pipeline was commissioned and started commercial operation on 1 May 2022. The length of the pipeline is and the natural gas can flow both directions. The pipeline will run from Jauniūnai natural gas compression station (GCS) in eastern Lithuania to the Hołowczyce GCS station in eastern Poland.
