Minoru Inuzuka
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Starting out as a screenwriter at Shochiku in 1924, he also participated in the production of Teinosuke Kinugasa's ''A Page of Madness''. When Chōjirō Hayashi (later known as Kazuo Hasegawa) became a jidaigeki star at Shochiku, Inuzuka directed many of his films. After World War II, Inuzuka returned to specializing in screenplays and was known for his scripts for the Zatoichi series. He published his autobiography in 2002, and died in 2007 at the age of 106. When he died, he was called the last surviving director to have directed a silent film in the 1920s. Inuzuka wrote scripts for over 150 films and directed over 50. The Tale Of Zatoichi
is a 1962 Japanese ''chanbara'' film directed by Kenji Misumi and based on the 1948 essay of the same name by Kan Shimozawa. It is the first installment in a long-running ''jidaigeki'' film series starring Shintaro Katsu as the blind swordsman Zatoichi. Plot The blind masseur Zatoichi is hired as muscle for the ''yakuza'' Sukegoro (Eijiro Yanagi) as he thinks that war is inevitable with his rival Shigezo (Ryuzo Shimada). Zatoichi has a distinguished reputation as a swordsman and Sukegoro thinks that purchasing his services is money well spent. Shigezo responds by hiring a '' ronin'' of similar repute, Miki Hirate (Shigeru Amachi). Ichi presents himself as a meek, humble man and is commonly underestimated and looked upon suspiciously. Zatoichi On The Road
is a 1963 Japanese Chambara film directed by Kimiyoshi Yasuda starring Shintaro Katsu as the blind masseur Zatoichi, originally released by the Daiei Motion Picture Company (now known as Kadokawa Pictures). ''Zatoichi: On the Road'' is the fifth episode in the 26 part film series devoted to the character of Zatoichi. Plot Ichi is being taken to Doyama, all expenses paid by an employee of Doyama crime boss Hikozo, on the promise of just meeting with Hikozo, no obligation to do anything. On the way his guide is killed by Hikozo's rivals who overheard Ichi and his guide at a tea house. Ichi kills them including the husband of Hisa, a woman who watches the short fight. She tells him this when he asks and they part coolly. At night he encounters a group of samurai looking for a girl. They leave and Ichi discovers the man they have just mortally wounded. ''The New Tale of Zatoichi'' ( ja, 新・座頭市物語 ''Shin Zatoichi monogatari'') is a 1963 Japanese film and the third entry from the popular Zatoichi series completing the trilogy. The film is the first Zatoichi film to be in colour. Plot Ichi travels to his old village four years after he stopped training, seemingly without his swordstick, which is disguised to look like a parasol he carries on his back. On the way he meets his childhood friend Tamekichi. Tamekichi, his wife and child have become poor, and must make a living with music. While at an inn, a group of travelers are robbed by four thieves but Ichi does not stop them. The next day he calls out the thieves in front of the local clan leader with whom they are associated, saying he did not want to risk anyone getting hurt last night.
