The Minister for Local Government in Ghana is responsible for decentralised administration of the country. This minister is also responsible for enhancing the development of the rural areas of Ghana. The title of the position has been altered under some governments to reflect this. Kofi Asante Ofori-Atta
Aaron Eugene Kofi Asante Ofori-Atta, (12 December 1912 – July 1978) was a Ghanaian educator, lawyer and politician who served as the fourth Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana. Early life and education He was born on 12 December 1912 at Kyebi, Akyem Abuakwa and was a member of the Ofori-Atta royal family. After attending Presbyterian elementary school, he entered Mfantsipim School in 1925 and later left in 1928 to join Achimota College where he completed his secondary education in 1933. He served in various capacities at the Abuakwa State College and was made the school's Vice Principal and later Principal from 1944 to 1947. Later in 1947, he left for Ireland and entered Trinity College Dublin where he obtained his B.A degree in law and a diploma in public administration. Stephen Asamoah Boateng
Stephen Asamoah Boateng (born August 18, 1958) is a Ghanaian politician and a former member of parliament for the Mfantsiman West constituency of the Central region of Ghana. He is a former Minister for Local Government Rural Development and Environment, Tourism and Diaspora Relations. Boateng is also a former minister of information and National Orientation as well as a former chief executive officer of the State Enterprise committee. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko
Kwadwo Adjei Darko is a Ghanaian politician. He was the Member of parliament for the Sunyani West constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu
Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu (1952 – 24 September 2008) was a Ghanaian politician and a chartered accountant. He was Member of Parliament in the Parliament of Ghana for Asante Akim North Constituency from January 1997 until his death on September 24, 2008. He served as a Minister of state at different ministries under the Kufuor government from 2001. Early life and education Baah-Wiredu was born in Asante Akim Agogo. He started his secondary education at the Kumasi High School, Kumasi in 1967. He obtained the GCE Ordinary Level Certificate in 1972. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. Kwamena Ahwoi
Kwamena Ahwoi (born 13 October 1951) is a Ghanaian academic and politician, who served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development from 1990 to 2001 in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, during the reign of Jerry Rawlings. He also briefly served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1997, and was acting minister in that department during much of the 1990s. Joyce Rosalind Aryee (born 27 March 1947) is a Ghanaian former politician, business executive and minister. Aryee is recognized for having served Ghana for more than 40 years in both the public and private sectors. From 2001 to 2011, she served as the chief executive officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and was the first woman in Africa to have held that role.
