The Minister for Health ( ga, An tAire Sláinte) is a senior minister in the Government of Ireland and leads the Department of Health. The Minister for Health is responsible for healthcare in the Republic of Ireland and related services. The current Minister for Health is Stephen Donnelly, TD. Richard James Mulcahy (10 May 1886 – 16 December 1971) was an Irish Fine Gael politician and army general who served as Minister for Education from 1948 to 1951 and 1954 to 1957, Minister for the Gaeltacht from June 1956 to October 1956, Leader of the Opposition from 1944 to 1948, Leader of Fine Gael from 1944 to 1959, Minister for Local Government and Public Health from 1927 to 1932 and Minister for Defence from January to April 1919 and 1922 to 1924. Séamus Aloysius Burke (sometimes spelt ''Bourke'') (15 June 1893 – 10 June 1967) was an Irish barrister and Cumann na nGaedheal and later Fine Gael politician who was a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1918 to 1938, and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (1927–1932) and Minister for Local Government and Public Health (1924–1927). In law, a person is acting in a position if they are not serving in the position on a permanent basis. Michael Neary (surgeon)
Michael Neary is a disgraced Irish consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist who carried out unnecessary surgical removal of the wombs of 129 women, many immediately following delivery of a baby. This happened while he worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, County Louth. He was placed on administrative leave in 1998 and suspended by the Irish Medical Council in 1999 pending investigation. In 2003 he was found guilty of professional misconduct by the Irish Medical Council and struck off the Irish Register of Medical Practitioners. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), or ''Seirbhís Fuilaistriúcháin na hÉireann'' in Irish, was established in Ireland as the ''Blood Transfusion Service Board'' (''BTSB'') by the ''Blood Transfusion Service Board (Establishment) Order, 1965''. Medical malpractice is a legal cause of action that occurs when a medical or health care professional, through a negligent act or omission, deviates from standards in their profession, thereby causing injury or death to a patient.
