The Minister of Urban Affairs is a former cabinet position in Manitoba, Canada. The position was created in the early 1970s, incorporating responsibilities that had previously been held by the Minister of Municipal Affairs. It was discontinued by the government of Gary Doer in 1999. Cabinet Minister
A minister is a politician who heads a ministry, making and implementing decisions on policies in conjunction with the other ministers. In some jurisdictions the head of government is also a minister and is designated the ‘ prime minister’, ‘premier’, ‘chief minister’, ‘chancellor’ or other title. Eugene Kostyra
Eugene Michael Kostyra (June 19, 1947 – May 3, 2020) was a Canadian politician in Manitoba. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1981 to 1988 and a cabinet minister in the New Democratic Party government of Howard Pawley. Early life Born on June 19, 1947, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Albert Kostyra and Jean Swetz, Eugene Michael Kostyra was educated at Ralph Brown Elementary School and Isaac Newton Junior High School. He dropped out of St. John's High School and worked as a clerk-typist and journeyman electrician. He became involved in Manitoba's trade union movement before entering politics, holding a prominent position in the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Thelma Forbes
Thelma Bessie Forbes (September 26, 1910 – January 5, 2012) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. She was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1959 to 1969, and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Dufferin Roblin and Walter Weir. Forbes was the third woman ever elected to serve in the Manitoba legislature, the first woman to serve as speaker for the legislature and the first to serve in cabinet. The daughter of Robert A. J. Brown and Annie Sheehan, she was born on a farm near Manitou, Manitoba, was educated at Manitou Collegiate and the Manitou Normal School, going on to teach school in south central Manitoba. Jack Reimer
Jack F. Reimer is a Progressive Conservative politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba (MLA) from 1990 to 2007, and served in the government of Gary Filmon. The son of Jacob Frank Reimer, a Russian immigrant, he grew up in East Kildonan where his father owned a service station and he graduated from Miles MacDonell Collegiate. Linda Laughlin McIntosh (born December 14, 1943) is a former politician in Manitoba, Canada. She was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1990 to 1999, and a cabinet minister for most of this period. Gerald Wayne Joseph "Gerry" Mercier (born November 7, 1942 in Claresholm, Alberta) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1977 to 1988, and was a cabinet minister in the Progressive Conservative government of Sterling Lyon. The son of Gerard Mercier, he was educated at St. Paul's College and the University of Manitoba Law School, and practiced as a lawyer before entering political life. He served on the Winnipeg City Council from 1971 to 1977, when he shifted to the provincial scene. On one occasion, he served as Chair of the city's Works and Operation Committee.
