Public works are a broad category of infrastructure projects, financed and constructed by the government, for recreational, employment, and health and safety uses in the greater community. They include public buildings ( municipal buildings, schools, and hospitals), transport infrastructure (roads, railroads, bridges, pipelines, canals, ports, and airports), public spaces (public squares, parks, and beaches), public services (water supply and treatment, sewage treatment, electrical grid, and dams), and other, usually long-term, physical assets and facilities. Johan Sauwens
Johan Sauwens (born 14 March 1951 in Sint-Truiden) is a Belgian politician from the province of Limburg. Biography Sauwens studied law at the Catholic University of Leuven and was from 1975 to 1993 attorney. Politically, he was a member of the People's Union. Between October 1985 and May 1995, he was a representative. Ex officio, he was also a member of the Flemish Council during that period. At the first direct elections to the Flemish Parliament on 21 May 1995 he was elected in the constituency of Hasselt-Tongeren-Maaseik. He was re-elected in the June 1999 Flemish elections but became Flemish minister shortly after, on 13 July 1999. In May 2001, he was forced to resign as minister after it became known that he attended the anniversary celebration of the ''Sint-Maartensfonds'', an organization of Flemish Eastern Front Fighters, where he was a member for over twenty years. People's Union ( nl, Volksunie, VU) was a Flemish nationalist political party in Belgium, formed in 1954 as a successor to the Christian Flemish People's Union. The Volksunie defined itself as a big tent and catch-all party that combined support from the left and right with the main goal of focusing on increased Flemish autonomy and establishing more linguistic and political rights for the Flemish community. The party also based its platform on civic nationalism over radicalism in order to foster a more legitimate image. Theo Kelchtermans (born 27 June 1943 in Peer, Belgium) is a Belgian politician. Biography Kelchtermans was born on 27 June 1943 in Peer, Belgium. Kelchtermans graduated with a degree in applied psychology at the Catholic University of Leuven. He worked as a consultant at the CLB center of Neerpelt. He was from 1975 to 1985 member of the Regional Economic Council for Flanders (GERV). From 1974 to 1981, he served as county councilor in Limburg. Steve Stevaert (; born Robert Stevaert ; 12 April 1954 – 2 April 2015) was a Belgian politician of the Flemish Socialist Party: the SP.A. Biography Stevaert was born on 12 April 1954 in Rijkhoven in Belgium. After his studies at the "Hoger Rijksinstituut voor Toerisme, Hotelwezen en Voedingsbedrijven", Stevaert started as a bar owner in 1972. Stevaert became politically active in 1982 under the wings of his mentor Willy Claes. Stevaert was elected to the Provincial Council of Limburg from 1985 to 1995. Gilbert Bossuyt Paul Vincent (born 16 September 1947) is a Belgian politician of the Socialist Party Differently (sp.a). Biography In 1972, he graduated with a Doctor of Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a Dutch-speaking university in Brussels. He was national secretary of the textiles branch of the ABVV/FGTB labour union. He became active in municipal politics in Menen, where he became a councillor in 1971. After the municipal elections of 1988, he became mayor in 1989. He remained mayor for one legislative term and was succeeded in 1995 by Jean Libbrecht. Hilde Urbanie Julia Crevits (born 28 June 1967, in Torhout) is a Belgian politician from Flanders and member of the Christian Democratic and Flemish party who is currently the Flemish minister of Economy, Innovation, Work, Social economy and Agriculture.
