Flag Of South Africa
The flag of South Africa was designed in March 1994 and adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of South Africa's South African general election, 1994, 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. The flag has horizontal bands of red (on the top) and blue (on the bottom), of equal width, separated by a central green band which splits into a horizontal "Y" shape, the arms of which end at the corners of the hoist side (and follow the flag's diagonals). The "Y" embraces a black isosceles triangle from which the arms are separated by narrow yellow or gold fimbriation, bands; the red and blue bands are separated from the green band and its arms by narrow white stripes. Schalk Van Der Merwe (politician)
Schalk van der Merwe (16 April 1961 – 24 January 2016) was a professional tennis player from South Africa. His best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was a third-round appearance at the 1982 US Open, where he had wins over Derek Tarr and Raúl Ramírez. Carel De Wet
Carel Pieter Cronje de Wet (25 May 1924 – 22 May 2004) was a South African politician, doctor, diplomat, and member of the National Party. De Wet was mayor for Vanderbijlpark and MP of that town, then MP for Johannesburg West, and was also an Ambassador. Life Dr. Carel de Wet was born in Memel, Orange Free State Province (Now Free State). He was the grandson of Boer general Christiaan Rudolf de Wet, born 2 years after his death. He married Rina Maas in 1949 and they both had 4 children together. De Wet matriculated from Vrede High School. He would attend the University of Pretoria and graduated with a Bachelor of Science. Albert Hertzog
Johannes Albertus Munnik Hertzog (; 4 July 1899, Bloemfontein – 5 November 1982, Pretoria) was an Afrikaner politician, cabinet minister, and founding leader of the Herstigte Nasionale Party. He was the son of J. B. M. Hertzog, J. B. M. (Barry) Hertzog, a former Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. Albert Hertzog served as the Minister of Health (South Africa), South African Minister of Health from 1954 to 1958 and as Minister of Communications (South Africa), Minister of Post and Telecommunications from 1958 to 1968. Johannes Hendrikus Viljoen (15 October 1893 – 5 December 1957) was a South African politician, member of parliament for the constituencies of Hoopstad (1933-1941) and Vryburg (1948-1957), Minister of Mines (1950-1953), Education, Arts and Sciences (1950-1957), Social Affairs (1953-1954), Forestry (1954-1956) and Health (1956-1957) in both Dr Malan's and Advocate Strijdom's cabinets in South Africa. Tom Naudé
Jozua François "Tom" Naudé (15 April 1889, Middelburg, Cape Colony – 31 May 1969 Cape Town) served as acting state president of South Africa from 1967 to 1968. A National Party politician for many years, he served as Minister of Posts and Telegraphs from 1950 to 1954, as Minister of Health from 1954 to 1958, and as Minister of Finance from 1958 to 1961. He was then appointed President of the Senate of South Africa, and in terms of the South African Constitution of 1961 he would be required ''ex officio'' under a dormant commission to act as State President of South Africa whenever that office was vacant. He was unexpectedly called upon to do this when Dr Eben Dönges, who was elected to succeed C.R. Swart as State President in 1967, suffered a stroke and fell into a coma before he could be inaugurated. Albertus Magnus (c. 1200 – 15 November 1280), also known as Saint Albert the Great or Albert of Cologne, was a German Dominican friar, philosopher, scientist, and bishop. Later canonised as a Catholic saint, he was known during his lifetime as ''Doctor universalis'' and ''Doctor expertus'' and, late in his life, the sobriquet ''Magnus'' was appended to his name. Karl Bremer (27 April 1885 – 18 July 1953) was a medical doctor and a South African politician who became the Minister of Health and Social Welfare in South Africa in Dr D. F. Malan's cabinet. Early life Bremer is of German ancestry, his father emigrated from Germany to Cape Colony shortly before his birth. Bremer was the only son, among a family of 7 children, of a physician on Hopefield in the Cape Colony. His father, also a doctor, died at the age of 45 while his son was only 8 years old. His mother moved with her children to Wellington in the Western Cape where Bremer attended school at the Huguenot College. In 1903 he studied at the University of Stellenbosch, graduating with an honours in botany, and obtained a scholarship that allowed him to pursue medical studies in England.
