Minister For The Environment Of Luxembourg
The Minister for the Environment ( lb, Ëmweltministere vu Lëtzebuerg) was a position in the Luxembourgian cabinet. Among other competences, the Minister for the Environment is responsible for carrying out government policy on the environment; for ensuring sustainable development; for promoting development of new energy sources; and for protecting forests, parks, and areas of importance to the environment. The office was first created on 17 June 1974, under the auspices of the ''Minister for Public Health and the Environment'' (''Ministre de la Santé publique et de l’Environnement''). On 16 September 1977, the environment brief was separated from that of public health, and combined with that of tourism, creating the post of ''Minister for the Environment and Tourism'' (''Ministre de l’Environnement et du Tourisme''). Robert Krieps
Robert Krieps (15 October 1922 – 1 August 1990) was a Luxembourgish politician. He served as the President of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party from 1980 until 1985, as well as serving in the Luxembourgish cabinet under both Gaston Thorn and Jacques Santer. Krieps was the son of Ernestine (Ehlinger) and Adolphe Krieps. He was married to Renée Ketter. Lucien Lux
Lucien Lux (born 13 September 1956 in Troisvierges) is a politician and trade unionist from Luxembourg. A member of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party, Lux was in the government from 2004 until 2009, under Jean-Claude Juncker. He worked for Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, and in 1978 joined the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (OGB-L) as union secretary. Lux was the chairman of the Bettembourg branch of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) from 1986, and he became mayor of Bettembourg on 1 January 1988, which he would hold until his appointment to the government. The 1989 elections saw Lux first enter the Chamber of Deputies, representing Circonscription Sud, after which he stepped down from his position at the OGB-L. Charles Goerens
Charles Goerens (born 6 February 1952) is a Luxembourgish politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Luxembourg. He is a member of the Democratic Party, part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Early career He studied agricultural science before he was first elected to the northern district constituency as a member of the Democratic Party in 1979. From 1989 until 1994 he was its chairman. Alex Bodry (born 3 October 1958) is a politician from Luxembourg. Life and career Born 3 October 1958 in Dudelange, Bodry lived there since childhood. Jacques Santer (born 18 May 1937) is a Luxembourg politician who served as the 9th President of the European Commission from 1995 to 1999. Pierre Werner (29 December 1913 – 24 June 2002) was a Luxembourgian politician in the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) who was the 18th Prime Minister from 1959 to 1974 and from 1979 to 1984. Josy Barthel
Joseph ("Josy") Barthel (24 April 1927 – 7 July 1992) was a Luxembourgish athlete. He was the surprise winner of the Men's 1500 metres at the 1952 Summer Olympics, and the only athlete representing Luxembourg to have won a gold medal at the Olympics. Besides athletics, Barthel also led successful careers in both chemistry and politics. His first fame came by winning the 800 m at the Military World Championships in Berlin in 1947. The next year at Military World Championships in Brussels he won both 800 m and 1500 m.
