Minisink is a town located in southwestern Orange County, New York, United States, northeast of the New Jersey border between the Town of Greenville and the Town of Warwick. The population was 4,621 at the 2020 census. The town is located near Interstate 84 and New York State Route 17 and lies approximately halfway between New York City and Scranton, Pennsylvania. Minisink Ford, New York
Minisink Ford is a hamlet on the Delaware River, fifteen miles northwest of Port Jervis. It is in the town of Highland, Sullivan County, New York, United States. History "Minisink" once referred to a vast area stretching all the way from Minisink Ford to the Delaware Water Gap. In 1800, the Town of Minisink was given its present boundaries, thirty miles southwest of Minisink Ford. During the American Revolution in 1779, Minisink Ford was the site of the Battle of Minisink, in which 40–50 settlers were killed in an engagement with a band of Iroquois and Loyalists under Mohawk chief and Colonel Joseph Brant. New York State Route 284 (NY 284) is a north–south state highway located entirely within Orange County, New York, in the United States. It begins just south of the village of Unionville at the New Jersey state line in the town of Minisink, where it connects to that state's Route 284. From Unionville, the route heads through rural parts of Orange County for just over to an intersection with U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in the hamlet of Slate Hill, located southwest of the city of Middletown in the town of Wawayanda. Minisink Patent
The Minisink Angle was an angle created in a patent boundary during the 18th century, mostly within the present borders of Orange and Ulster counties in southeastern New York State. In creating this boundary adjustment, the proprietors of the 1704 Minisink Patent attempted to expand their patent boundary northeastward, at the expense of those with an interest in the adjacent 1694 Evans Patent, which had been resumed (reclaimed) by the English crown and was being subdivided by the colonial governors into grants to prospective settlers and investors. The lands of the Evans Patent had in turn originated as two large, contiguous tracts purchased by Governor Thomas Dongan in 1684-85 from the Esopus Indians and the Murderer's Creek tribe.
