Mimulus Filicaulis
''Erythranthe filicaulis'', known by the common name slender-stemmed monkeyflower, is a species of monkeyflower. It was formerly known as ''Mimulus filicaulis''. Distribution ''Erythranthe filicaulis'' is endemic to California, where it is known only from the High Sierra Nevada within Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties. Its habitat includes moist areas such as mountain meadows and habitat with disturbed soil. Description and habitat ''Erythranthe filicaulis'' can carpet an area with its low-lying pink blooms. Sereno Watson (December 1, 1826 in East Windsor Hill, Connecticut – March 9, 1892 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) was an American botanist. Graduating from Yale in 1847 in Biology, he drifted through various occupations until, in California, he joined the Clarence King Expedition and eventually became its expedition botanist. Appointed by Asa Gray as assistant in the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University in 1873, he later became its curator, a position he maintained until his death. Watson was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1874, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1889. ''Erythranthe'', the monkey-flowers and musk-flowers, is a diverse plant genus with more than 120 members (as of 2022) in the family Phrymaceae. ''Erythranthe'' was originally described as a separate genus, then generally regarded as a section within the genus ''Mimulus'', and recently returned to generic rank. ''Mimulus'' sect. ''Diplacus'' was segregated from ''Mimulus'' as a separate genus at the same time. ''Mimulus'' remains as a small genus of eastern North America and the Southern Hemisphere.
