Millbrook Railway Station (Hampshire)
Millbrook railway station is a small station in the Millbrook area of Southampton, England. It is served mainly by the Salisbury to Romsey stopping service. This service runs once per hour in each direction. It is down the line from . The station is managed by South Western Railway. The platforms face the slow lines only, there are no platforms for the fast lines. Millbrook Freightliner Terminal is located next to the station on the up side. A car terminal and rail access to Southampton's Western Docks can be seen from the down side of the station. In summer 2021, works were undertaken to improve the footbridge that connects the island platform with Millbrook Road West. Millbrook, Hampshire
Millbrook is a suburb and former civil parish of Southampton. As the area developed, several settlements grew within the parish, some of them becoming parishes in their own right, thus reducing the extent of the Millbrook parish. As well as the Millbrook of today, the original Millbrook parish included Freemantle, Regents Park, and Redbridge. Some of these areas are still referred to as being part of Millbrook. The brook that Millbrook was named after is now known as Tanner's Brook. Sprat And Winkle Line
The Sprat and Winkle Line was the common name of the Andover to Redbridge railway line which ran between Andover, Hampshire, Andover and Redbridge, Southampton, Redbridge in Hampshire, England. In the Romsey area it joined, and then left, the Salisbury to Southampton line. It was built by the Andover and Redbridge Railway, which was incorporated in 1858. In 1863 the uncompleted railway was taken over by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR), which opened the line in 1865. The line had been conceived as part of a trunk route from Manchester to Southampton, but when the Midland and South Western Junction Railway opened, the anticipated long distance traffic was disappointing. The M&SWJR line closed in 1961 and the Andover line was unable to survive on purely local traffic. The London and South Western Railway (LSWR, sometimes written L&SWR) was a railway company in England from 1838 to 1922.
