Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. North Cork Junior A Hurling Championship
The North Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Hibernian Hotel Junior A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Avondhu Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1925 for junior hurling teams in North Cork. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in the autumn. The championship includes a group stage insuring teams will get at least 2 championship matches. The North Cork Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior Hurling Championship. The winners and runners-up of the North Cork championship join their counterparts from the other seven divisions to contest the county championship. Ashling Thompson
Ashling Thompson is an Irish sportswoman. She plays camogie with her local club, Milford, and with the Cork county team. Her partner is well known Limerick All Ireland Winning Midfielder Darragh O'Donovan Career Thompson began playing camogie for Milford aged 6. With them, she was won three All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championships. Ashling has won the All-Ireland camogie championship five times. She helped her team to glory in: 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, 2023 Thompson won an All Star Award in 2015 and 2017. She was the subject of a ''Laochra Gael'' episode in 2018. Personal life Thompson's mother was involved in the founding of Milford camogie club. A car accident in 2009 caused severe muscle damage to her neck and back and led to a period of mental illness. Anna Geary
Anna Geary (born 28 July 1987) is a camogie player and television personality from Milford, County Cork, Ireland. Sporting career She is a winner of four All Star awards, most recently in 2011. She previously won All-Star awards in 2005 and 2006 and 2010. and All Ireland medals in 2005 2006, 2009 and 2014. She was nominated for a further All-Star award in 2007. Geary was captain as Cork won the 2014 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. Geary Is the winner of 3 All Ireland Club medals in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Three Munster camogie club medals and three county camogie medals with her club Milford. She also won a European camogie championship playing for GSC Luxembourg in 2008. Seán O'Gorman
Seán O'Gorman (born 26 May 1960) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Milford, County Cork, O'Gorman first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 1879-80 league. O'Gorman immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, O'Gorman never won a Railway Cup medal. At club level he won several championship medals in all grades with Milford, while he also line dout with divisional side Avondhu. Throughout his career O'Gorman made 16 championship appearances. Eoin Dillon
Eoin Dillon (born 1 June 1987) is an Irish hurler who plays for Cork Intermediate Championship club Milford. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for three years, during which time he usually lined out as a full-back. Dillon began his hurling career at club level with Milford, while his early prowess also saw him selected for the Cork Institute of Technology in the Fitzgibbon Cup and the Avondhu divisional team. At inter-county level, Dillon was part of the Cork minor team that won back-to-back Munster Championships in 2004 and 2005 before later winning a Munster Championship with the under-21 team in 2007. He was at midfield for the Cork intermediate All-Ireland Championship-winning team in 2009. Dillon joined the Cork senior team in 2010. The All-Ireland Club Camogie Championship is a competition for club teams in the Irish women’s field sport of camogie. It is contested by the senior club champions of the leading counties and organised by An Cumann Camógaíochta. Trophy The trophy for the competition was donated by Bill Carroll, whose daughter, Ann was one of the outstanding players of the first decade of the competition, winning Championships with both St Patrick’s, Glengoole and St Paul’s, Kilkenny. History The competition was established in 1964, six years before the equivalent competitions in hurling and Gaelic football. Cork Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the ''Evening Echo'' Cork County Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1973 for the top tier under-21 hurling teams in the county of Cork in Ireland. The series of games are played from the summer to the winter months with the county final currently being played at Páirc Uí Rinn. The prize for the winning team is the Dick Barrett Cup. Milford () is a small village in County Cork, Ireland. It is in the townland of Kilbolane on regional road R515, close to, but on the Cork side of, the border with County Limerick. Milford is within the Cork North-West Dáil constituency. Milford has two pubs, a local church, an ancient castle, a primary school, a creamery, a Garda station, and a tennis court.
