Miles Bourke
Miles Bourke (20 November 1925 – 13 October 1982) was an Australian farmer who served as the first president of the Victorian Farmers' Federation. He was born in Warracknabeal to farmer Michael Thomas Bourke and Lucy, ''née'' Powell. He attended local schools and then Ballarat Grammar School. He left school in 1942 to help his mother run their farm (his father had died in 1939). He married Ida Jean Brewster on 15 July 1953, and served on Warracknabeal Shire Council from 1955 to 1976 (as president in 1959 and 1967). In 1963 he was elected to the executive of the Victorian Wheat and Wool-growers' Association (VWWGA), and he was also appointed to the Wheat Advisory Committee and the Victorian Wheat Research Foundation by the state government. The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is an Australian non-profit membership based advocacy and lobby group that represents farmers in Victoria. The organisation represents its members in lobbying state and federal government on policy matters that affect farmers and regional communities. The VFF is a member organisation of the national farm lobby group the National Farmers Federation. Warracknabeal ( ) is a wheatbelt town in the Australian state of Victoria. Situated on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek, 330 km north-west of Melbourne, it is the business and services centre of the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee districts, and hosts local government offices of the Shire of Yarriambiack. At the Warracknabeal district had a population of 2,745, of which 2,340 lived in the town. History The original inhabitants of the area around Warracknabeal were the Wotjobaluk tribe of Aboriginal people. The town's name is believed to derive from an Aboriginal expression meaning "place of big gums shading the water hole". The earliest European settlers in the area included Andrew and Robert Scott, who established the first run of the name. The Shire of Warracknabeal was a local government area about west-northwest of Bendigo and north of Horsham, in western Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1891 until 1995. History The Warracknabeal area was initially within the St Arnaud Road District, first created in 1861, which became a Shire in 1864. On 30 January 1891, its West Riding was severed to create the Shire of Borung. AWB Limited was a major grain marketing organisation based in Australia. Founded in 1939 by the Government of Australia as the Australian Wheat Board, in 1999 it was sold off by the government, initially to be owned by wheat growers. It was acquired by Agrium in 2010. A dissection is a tear within the wall of a blood vessel, which allows blood to separate the wall layers. Usually, a dissection is an arterial wall dissection, but vein wall dissections (VWD) have been documented. By separating a portion of the wall of the artery (a layer of the tunica media or in some cases tunica intima), a dissection creates two lumens or passages within the vessel, the native or true lumen, and the "false lumen" created by the new space within the wall of the artery. It is not yet clear if the tear in the innermost layer, the tunica intima, is secondary to the tear in the tunica media. Dissections originating in the tunica media are caused by disruption of the vasa vasorum. It is thought that dysfunction in the vasa vasorum is an underlying cause of dissections.
