Line S1 (Milan Suburban Railway Service)
The S1 is a commuter rail route forming part of the Milan suburban railway service ( it, Servizio ferroviario suburbano di Milano), which converges on the city of Milan, Italy. The service operates over the Milan–Saronno, Milan Passante, and Milan–Bologna lines. Like all other Milan suburban railway service routes, it is operated by Trenord. Route S1, a cross-city route, heads in a southeasterly direction from Saronno to Milano Lancetti. From there, it runs via the Milan Passante railway through the municipality of Milan to Milano Rogoredo, and finally to Lodi. The travel takes 1h29'. Ferrovienord (prior to 2006, Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio) is an Italian transport company managing the network of regional railway concessions owned by the group in northern Italy. It is a subsidiary of Ferrovie Nord Milano. History The company was founded in 1985, as part of the transformation of Ferrovie Nord Milano SpA (FNM), a holding company. Its original name was ''Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio'' (FNME) and its objects were the management and maintenance of the FMN rail network and transport services on the network. Milan has 23 railway stations in use today. Of these, 18 are managed by RFI, while the remaining 6 are operated by Ferrovienord. Carlo Amoretti
Carlo Amoretti (born 16 March 1741 in Oneglia, now part of Imperia – died 23 March 1816) was an ecclesiastic, scholar, writer, and scientist. He entered the Augustinian order in 1757. To further his studies, he went to Pavia and Parma where he also taught ecclesiastical law. Wide-ranging intellect Amoretti was an Encyclopedist whose mind encompassed theology, physics, geology, paleography, geography, and art history. He translated scientific works, published or republished many rare books and manuscripts noteworthy of these being the extant codex of Antonio Pigafetta's relation of the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan's fleet. Milan Suburban Railway Service
The Milan S Lines constitute the commuter rail system serving the metropolitan area of Milan, Italy. The system comprises 11 lines serving 124 stations, for a total length of 403 km. There are 415 trains per day with a daily ridership of about 230,000. The core of the system is the Passante, an underground railway running through the city approximately from the north-west to the south-east. Several lines share this track, making the service in the city centre comparable to a metro line. The service timetable is based on a clock-face scheduling. Although operated by different companies, the Milan Metro and the suburban rail service have integrated tickets. Network Lines in darker background run through the Milan Passante railway. Quarto Oggiaro (; lmo, Quart Oggiee ) is a district of Milan in the north-west of the city. It belongs to Zone 8, and has a population of 35000 inhabitants. Name The name Quarto Oggiaro derives from the ancient toponymy ''Quarto Uglerio'': the word ''Quarto'', meaning fourth, is a clear reference to the distance of four Roman miles from the center of Milan; while the second part of the name, ''Uglerio'', is supposed to be the name of some influent inhabitant of the area in ancient times.
