The Milan Triennial V was the first to be held at the , the first recognised by the Bureau of International Expositions and also the first to be a triennial event (having previously been held biennially). De Chirico
Giuseppe Maria Alberto Giorgio de Chirico ( , ; 10 July 1888 – 20 November 1978) was an Italian artist and writer born in Greece. In the years before World War I, he founded the '' scuola metafisica'' art movement, which profoundly influenced the surrealists. His most well-known works often feature Roman arcades, long shadows, mannequins, trains, and illogical perspective. His imagery reflects his affinity for the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer and of Friedrich Nietzsche, and for the mythology of his birthplace. Dora Jung
Dora Elisabet Jung (16 October 1906 – 19 December 1980) was textile artist, craftswoman, and industrial designer from Finland. Her career lasted five decades. She designed products and works of art made out of linen which can be found in homes, churches, and public buildings. She was known for her expertise in designing woven damask fabrics with abstract motifs. Jung graduated in school of Art and design in 1932. She founded her own weaving atelier where she worked for more than 50 years. She developed her own loom, but usually others did the weaving while Jung concentrated in design and improving the weaving technique. Jung was considered by her contemporaries as the reformer of damask and her weaving as the renaissance of the damask art. Friedl Kjellberg
Friedl Kjellberg ( Holzer, from 1932 Holzer-Kjellberg; 24 October 1905 — 11 September 1993) was an Austrian-Finnish ceramicist, noted especially for her work with the so-called 'rice grain' method of porcelain-making. Career Friedl Holzer studied art and design in her native Austria, at the ''Kunstgewerbeschule'' design school in Graz, and upon graduating was offered a position as a designer at the Arabia ceramics manufacturer in Helsinki, Finland. She joined the company in 1924, and stayed there her entire career, until her retirement 46 years later in 1971. In 1932, Friedl Holzer married her colleague at Arabia, engineer Erik Kjellberg, and was thereafter alternately known both as Friedl Kjellberg and Holzer-Kjellberg. Kjellberg's design style has been characterised as 'modern classicism'; based on tradition, but tempered by clean simplicity. Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (; 3 February 1898 – 11 May 1976) was a Finnish architect and designer. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles and glassware, as well as sculptures and paintings. He never regarded himself as an artist, seeing painting and sculpture as "branches of the tree whose trunk is architecture." Aalto's early career ran in parallel with the rapid economic growth and industrialization of Finland during the first half of the 20th century. Carlo Carrà
Carlo Carrà (; February 11, 1881 – April 13, 1966) was an Italian painter and a leading figure of the Futurist movement that flourished in Italy during the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to his many paintings, he wrote a number of books concerning art. He taught for many years in the city of Milan. Biography Carrà was born in Quargnento, near Alessandria (Piedmont). At the age of 12 he left home in order to work as a mural decorator. In 1899–1900, Carrà was in Paris decorating pavilions at the Exposition Universelle, where he became acquainted with contemporary French art. He then spent a few months in London in contact with exiled Italian anarchists, and returned to Milan in 1901. Giovanni "Gio" Ponti ([d͡ʒo] 18 November 1891 – 16 September 1979) was an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, artist, teacher, writer and publisher. During his career, which spanned six decades, Ponti built more than a hundred buildings in Italy and in the rest of the world. Mario Sironi (May 12, 1885 – August 13, 1961) was an Italian modernist artist who was active as a painter, sculptor, illustrator, and designer. His typically somber paintings are characterized by massive, immobile forms. Biography He was born in Sassari on the island of Sardinia.
