Milan International
The Milan International was a world's fair held in Milan in 1906 titled ''L'Esposizione Internazionale del Sempione'', or sometimes ''The Great Expo of Work''. It received 4,012,776 visits and covered 250 acres. Summary The fair opened on 28 April 1906, ran until 31 October and marked the opening of the Simplon Tunnel. The fair was held in Sempione Park and Piazza d'Armi', with the first location hosting fine arts displays and the latter industrial and engineering exhibits, along with the foreign pavilions. Countries contributing included many from Western Europe, China, Japan, Turkey, United States, Canada and several South American countries shared a pavilion. The venues of the exposition were connected by the temporary Milan Exposition Elevated Railway. Leopoldo Metlicovitz
Leopoldo Metlicovitz (Trieste, 17 July 1868 - Ponte Lambro, 19 October 1944) was an Italians, Italian Painting, painter, illustrator and Poster artist, poster designer. Together with Leonetto Cappiello, Adolfo Hohenstein, Adolf Hohenstein, Giovanni Maria Mataloni and Marcello Dudovich, he is considered one of the fathers of modern Italian poster art. Biography Son of a merchant of Dalmatian Italians, Dalmatian origins (the family name was originally ''Metlicovich''), he began working in the family business at a very young age and at fourteen years old he entered as an apprentice in a printing house in Udine, where he learned the technique of lithography. Here he is noticed by Giulio Ricordi, owner of the homonymous musical house and of the Officine Grafiche, who invites him to move to Milan to complete his training. Milan, Italy is an ancient city in northern Italy first settled in about 400 BC by Celtic Insubres. The settlement was conquered by the Romans in 222 BC and renamed it Mediolanum. Diocletian divided the Roman Empire, choosing the eastern half for himself, making Milan the seat of the western half of the empire, from which Maximian ruled, in the late 3rd and early 4th century AD. Civic Aquarium Of Milan
The Civic Aquarium of Milan (Acquario Civico di Milano in Italian) is an aquarium in Milan, Italy, and the third oldest aquarium in Europe. Built in 1906 on the occasion of the Milan International, It is the only surviving building from the event. Sited on the edge of Sempione Park, the aquarium has over 100 different types of underwater life located in several tanks with a particular attention for the fishes and aquatic vegetation of the Italian seacoasts, lakes, and rivers.
