Mikey Lee
Mikey Lee (born 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays as a centre-forward for the Wicklow senior team. Born in Bray, County Wicklow, Lee first arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Wicklow minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 2013 National Hurling League. Lee has since gone on to play a key role for the team, and has won one National League (Division 2B) medal. He has been a Christy Ring Cup runner-up on one occasion. At club level Lee plays with Upperchurch–Drombane, Co. Tipperary and formerly with Bray Emmets Co Wicklow. Bray Emmets Gaelic Athletic Association is a hurling, camogie, Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. History The first club AGM took place on 11 December 1886. The first recorded Bray Emmets team played Dalkey in a field at the Vevay in 1885. The club took its name from Robert Emmet (1778–1803), an Irish rebel leader. The club host the annual All-Ireland Kick Fada Championship, first held in 2000. Wicklow GAA
The Wicklow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Cill Mhantáin) or Wicklow GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wicklow. The county board is also responsible for the Wicklow county teams. The county football team plays in the Leinster Senior Football Championship. Wicklow has had very little success at senior level, being the only football team in the province and one of two in Ireland to have never won a senior title in either code, the other being Fermanagh. The county hurling team competes in the Christy Ring Cup, the third tier of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Bray, County Wicklow
Bray ( ) is a coastal town in north County Wicklow, Ireland. It is situated about south of Dublin city centre on the east coast. It has a population of 32,600 making it the ninth largest urban area within Ireland (at the 2016 census). Bray is home to Ardmore Studios, and some light industry is located in the town, with some business and retail parks on its southern periphery. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. 2013 National Hurling League
The 2013 National Hurling League commenced in February 2013. 34 GAA county hurling teams: 32 from Ireland (including Fingal but not Cavan), London and Warwickshire, contested it. On the final day of fixtures in division 1A on 31 March, all six teams had a chance of either reaching the league semi-finals, or suffering relegation. Kilkenny won the NHL, defeating Tipperary in the final by 2-17 to 0-20 in the final on 5 May in Nowlan Park. Michael Fennelly scored two goals and three points in the first half as Kilkenny led by 2-07 to 0-11. In the second half Lar Corbett and JJ Delaney were sent off in the 46th minute after they wrestled each other on the ground near the Kilkenny goal. On 13 May Kilkenny's Lester Ryan was named as the GAA-GPA Hurler of the League for 2013. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The competition is named in honour of Christy Ring, a legendary player from Cork. The Christy Ring Cup, which was introduced in 2005, replaced the All-Ireland B Hurling Championship (1974-2004). Upperchurch–Drombane GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club is located in the area of Upperchurch and Drombane, seven miles from Thurles in mid County Tipperary, Ireland. They compete in hurling at both Senior and Junior A levels and in gaelic football at Senior and Junior B grade. The local GAA pitch is located approximately 1 mile from Drombane village.
