Mike George (radio Presenter)
Mike George is a British radio presenter. He was born in Harrow, Middlesex in 1945, a premature baby, as a result of the VE Celebrations. He attended Watford Central Primary and Bushey Grammar School. He spent most of his school holidays with his grandparents in Ross on Wye, which is how he developed his love of the counties of Hereford and Worcester. Mike and his two sons have been lifelong supporters of Watford Football Club. He is married to Lin and they have four children and at the last count, five grandchildren. Early career Mike spent ten years in the navy and eight years as a Medical Rep before discovering Hospital Radio. His first professional radio job was in Portsmouth. Mike joined Radio Wyvern (was Wyvern FM) (now Free Hereford and Worcester) in Worcester, when the station opened in 1982 as the weekday drive time presenter and later breakfast show presenter. Ross On Wye
Ross-on-Wye (Welsh: ''Rhosan ar Wy'') is a market town in England, near the border with Wales. It had a population of 10,582 according to the 2011 census, estimated at 11,309 in 2019. Watford Football Club
Watford Football Club is an English professional football club based in Watford, Hertfordshire. They play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. The club’s original foundation is 1881, aligned with that of its antecedent, Watford Rovers, and was established as Watford Football Club in 1898. Free Radio Herefordshire & Worcestershire (formerly Radio Wyvern) is a local commercial radio station owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Herefordshire and Worcestershire. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 65,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History Radio Wyvern originally went on-air on 4 October 1982. The original Wyvern name derived from the River Wye and River Severn, the rivers running through Hereford and Worcester respectively (the name was proposed in the 1970s for what would become the county of Hereford and Worcester). Capital South Wales is a regional radio station owned by Communicorp UK and operated by Global as part of the Capital network. It broadcasts to Cardiff and Newport and the surrounding areas from studios in Cardiff Bay. History The station originally took to the air in Cardiff only. Known as CBC (Cardiff Broadcasting Company), the station launched on 11 April 1980 on broadcasting on FM and AM. Following the closure of neighbouring Gwent Broadcasting in April 1985, CBC began relaying its service as a temporary measure to southern Gwent on FM and AM. Stan Stennett
Stanley Llewelyn Stennett (30 July 1925 – 26 November 2013) was a Welsh comedian, actor and jazz musician. Biography Stennett was born in Pencoed, Bridgend. During World War II, he served in the army and also worked as an entertainer. He made his professional stage debut with a group called the Harmaniacs. In 1940, he became resident comedian on variety radio show, ''Welsh Rarebit'', and he gained further success as one of the regular comedy guests on ''The Black and White Minstrel Show''. In the 1990s Stennett presented a country music show on Pontypridd Community Radio Station GTFM, having been introduced by former Valleys Radio/BBC presenter Steve Powell. BBC Radio Shropshire
BBC Radio Shropshire is the BBC's local radio station serving Shropshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios on Boscobel Drive in Shrewsbury. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 61,000 listeners and a 6.6% share as of September 2022. Transmitters The 96 MHz FM signal from The Wrekin is the strongest, and can be heard from outside the county, especially along the M5 and M6 near Birmingham, as well as into western Staffordshire, southern Cheshire and Wrexham.
