Mike Davis (pool Player)
Mike Davis (born January 13, 1975) is an American professional pool player. Davis was a part of the 2006 Mosconi Cup team representing the USA. The event would finish as a draw, with Davis also contributing three wins and three losses. At the 2011 Dragon 14.1 Tournament, Davis reached the final, however, he lost to Thorsten Hohmann. The final was tight with scores tied at 23-all, before Hohmann ran 102 balls, and eventually won 200–123. On route to the final, Davis defeated 200–133, Earl Herring 200–79, Mike Sigel 200–79, and Charlie Williams 200–166. 9-Ball
Nine-ball (sometimes written 9-ball) is a discipline of the cue sport pool. The game's origins are traceable to the 1920s in the United States. It is played on a rectangular billiard table with at each of the four corners and in the middle of each long side. Using a cue stick, players must strike the white cue ball to nine colored billiard balls, hitting them in ascending numerical order. An individual game (or ) is won by the player pocketing the . Pool (billiards)
Pool is a classification of cue sports played on a table with six pockets along the , into which balls are deposited. "Pool billiards" is sometimes hyphenated and/or spelled with a singular "billiard". The WPA itself uses "pool-billiard" in its logo but "pool-billiards" in its legal notices. The organization compounds the words to result in an acronym of "WPA", "WPBA" having already been taken by the Women's Professional Billiards Association. The 2006 Mosconi Cup, the 13th edition of the annual nine-ball pool competition between teams representing Europe and the United States, took place 7–10 December 2006 at the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Thorsten Hohmann
Thorsten Hohmann (born 14 July 1979 in Fulda, West Germany) is a German professional pool player, nicknamed "the Hitman." He is a three-time world champion, winning the WPA World Nine-ball Championship in 2003, and 2013, and winning the WPA World Straight Pool Championship in 2006. Career Early life Thorsten was born and raised in Fulda, Germany and at a very young age had always been interested in sports, playing football, table tennis and badminton. At the age of nine Thorsten's father took him to a local pool hall. On his 10th birthday Thorsten received a miniature pool table. By age twelve Thorsten and a friend began playing pool at a local pool hall. By age 16 he had won his first open adult tournament, of 128 players in the state of Hessia. Michael Sigel (born July 11, 1953) is an American professional pool player nicknamed "Captain Hook." He earned the nickname from his ability to hook his opponents with safety plays. Sigel has the ability to shoot pool both left-handed and right-handed and has a high run of 339 balls in Straight Pool. Mike Sigel is widely considered one of the greatest pool players of all time. In the year 2000, Sigel was voted "Greatest Living Player of the Century" by Billiards Digest Magazine. Early life Sigel is Jewish, and was born in Rochester, New York. Charlie Williams (pool Player)
Charlie Williams (born January 5, 1977, in Seoul, South Korea) is an American professional pool player. Williams represented America as a player at the Mosconi Cup 5 times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005) and as a non-playing captain in 2011. In 2001, Williams founded the sports marketing company Dragon Promotions. At the 2008 WPA World Ten-ball Championships, Williams would reach the quarter-finals, defeating Chang Jung-Lin (9-8), and Fu Che-wei (9-5), before losing to Darren Appleton 11–5. In 2011, Williams reached the semi-finals of the Dragon 14.1 Tournament but lost to Mike Davis. Sands Regency
Sands Regency is a hotel and casino located in Downtown Reno, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Jacobs Entertainment. History The Sands Regency opened in the early 1970s by the Cladianos family, with a small hotel and casino. The hotel tower stood 15 stories and was not in the most prospective area of Reno at that time and even in some regards to this day, but nevertheless it grew. By the late 1970s early 1980s a second tower and more casino space was added. By this time, the company was known as Sands Regent and the hotel's name became "Sands Regency" By the late 1988, a third and final tower had been constructed, giving the hotel a total of 800 rooms, and in the new tower came a parking garage.
