Michael J. Butler is an Irish computer scientist. As of 2022, he is professor of computer science and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton, England. Biography Butler was born in Ireland. He received his bachelor's degree in computer science from Trinity College, Dublin in 1988. He then took an MSc (1989) and DPhil (1992) at the Programming Research Group of the University of Oxford, working in the area of communicating sequential processes. He then worked for Broadcom in Dublin and at Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland with Ralph-Johan Back on refinement calculus. He joined the University of Southampton in 1995 as a lecturer, rising to reader in 2000 and then professor in the same year. Michael Butler (born December 24, 1961) is an American musician and podcaster from San Francisco, California, United States. He is well known for his popular podcast, ''The Rock and Roll Geek Show'', one of the earliest podcasts and a featured program on Mevio (formerly PodShow), a podcasting start-up and Butler's employer from late 2005 to 2013 as Director of Programming. He left that company to start his own multimedia video production company, "MySourceTV", with business partner Laura Rose. Michael Butler is an American politician who currently serves as the St. Louis Recorder of Deeds. He previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives. Early life and career Michael Butler was raised in the Shaw neighborhood in St. Louis. Michael Butler (November 26, 1926 – November 7, 2022) was an American theatrical producer best known for bringing the rock musical ''Hair'' from the Public Theater to Broadway in 1968. During his time as ''Hair'' producer he was dubbed "the hippie millionaire" by the press. His other Broadway production credits include the play ''Lenny'' in 1971 and the musical ''Reggae'' in 1980. Michael Butler (2 October 1916 – 2 January 1987) was an Irish hurling player. He played with the Faughs GAA club in Dublin and was a member of the Dublin senior inter-county team from 1938 to 1945. Butler also returned to his native county and played for Kilkenny in 1946. He was once referred to as "The only full back who could keep Mick Mackey in his place". Club Michael Butler played for Faughs GAA Club in Dublin and won 7 Dublin Senior Hurling Championship titles with them. He won Dublin county finals between 1936-1946.
