Mike Bettiga
Michael John Bettiga (pronounced "Bet-TEE-ga") (born September 10, 1950) is a former American football wide receiver who played for the San Francisco 49ers during the 1974 NFL season. A multi-sport star, Bettiga was named to All-Golden Valley Conference teams for basketball and football at the junior college level and later set a series of school records at Humboldt State University running the 120-yard high hurdles. He was inducted into the Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994 for track and football. San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers (also written as the San Francisco Forty-Niners) are a professional American football team based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Northern California Athletic Conference (NCAC) was an NCAA Division II college athletic association that sponsored American football that was founded in 1925. It disbanded in 1998 after the majority of its member schools were forced to drop football. History The NCAC was founded as the Far Western Conference (FWC) in 1925 by its charter member schools: Fresno State, Saint Mary's, UC Davis, Nevada, San Jose State and Pacific. Nevada's departure from the conference in 1940 left the conference with only four members; Chico State, Fresno State, College of the Pacific and UC Davis. NCAA All-American
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running.
