Mikael Avetisyan
Mikael Avetisyan ( hy, Միքայել Ավետիսյան; born 1966) is an Armenian Conducting, conductor, Professor. He was the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998 to 1999. Doctor of Music. Biography He studied Opera-Symphony Conducting at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, and in 1991 he finished his post-graduate studies under the guidance of Ohan Durian. In 1985-1990 he also was a student of Professor Ilia Musin at St. Petersburg Conservatory. Avetisyan was the conductor at the Armenian National Radio and Television Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Since 2002 Avetisyan was appointed conductor for the New Valley Symphony Orchestra. Currently M. Avetisyan is the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra (USA). Conducting
Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture." The primary duties of the conductor are to interpret the score in a way which reflects the specific indications in that score, set the tempo, ensure correct entries by ensemble members, and "shape" the phrasing where appropriate. Conductors communicate with their musicians primarily through hand gestures, usually with the aid of a baton, and may use other gestures or signals such as eye contact. A conductor usually supplements their direction with verbal instructions to their musicians in rehearsal. Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra
The Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra (''ANPO'') (Armenian: Հայաստանի ազգային ֆիլհարմոնիկ նվագախումբ) is the national orchestra of Armenia. It was founded in 1925 as a symphony orchestra of the Yerevan State Conservatory. Now it performs in Khachaturian Hall, Yerevan. Over the years, conductors Arshak Adamian, Alexander Spendiarian, Ohan Durian, Valeri Gergiev, Loris Tjeknavorian, etc. directed the orchestra. Since its foundation, the orchestra has performed most of the classical repertoire. Many famous artists as David Oistrach, Sviatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich, David Geringas, Boris Berezovsky, Ian Gillan have appeared with the orchestra. Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory
Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan ( hy, Երևանի Կոմիտասի անվան պետական կոնսերվատորիա), also known as Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory (YKSC) or Yerevan State Conservatory (YSC), is a state-owned college of music located in Yerevan, Armenia. The institute was founded in 1921 as a music studio. In 1923, it was turned into a higher musical education institution. It is named after Komitas, the founder of the Armenian national school of music. Ohan Durian
Ohan Durian or Duryan ( hy, Օհան Դուրյան; September 8, 1922, Jerusalem - January 6, 2011, Yerevan) was an Armenian conductor and composer. Life and career Ohan Durian was born Hanna Khatchadurian in Jerusalem. From 1939 to 1945 he studied composition, conducting and organ at the Jerusalem Conservatory. He completed his education in Europe under the tutelage of Hermann Scherchen, Roger Désormière and Jean Martinon. After graduating, he toured Europe, performing with several orchestras, and worked as a music teacher at Birzeit University between 1944 and 1946. In 1957 he settled in Armenia at the invitation of Catholicos Vazgen I, and in 1959-65 and 1972-1974 he was conductor of the Armenian State Philharmonic Society. Due to Soviet restrictions on artistic expression, he left Armenia for Europe, and from 1963 to 1968 he served as Music Director of the Leipzig Opera and was Guest Conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra.
