Midtgulen Church
Midtgulen Church ( no, Midtgulen kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Midtgulen, along the shore of the Gulen fjord. It is one of the two churches for the Midtgulen parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1904 by the architect Lars Sølvberg from Utvik. The church seats about 180 people. History The old municipality of Bremanger comprised some areas around the Gulen fjord, while the majority of people lived on the island of Bremangerlandet where the parish church was located. The local people of Midtgulen had long thought about the idea of having a church near them, but the issue was more of a wish rather than a demand, and they discussed the matter more among themselves than with the vicar. Bremanger is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village of Svelgen is the administrative centre of the municipality. Other villages include Bremanger, Berle, Davik, Isane, Kalvåg, Svelgen, Rugsund, and Ålfoten. Bremanger is the only municipality in Vestland, which is located in two districts. Utvik is a village in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden. The list of churches in Bjørgvin is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Bjørgvin which includes all of Vestland county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a Provost (religion), provost) in the diocese. Johan Willoch Erichsen
Johan Willoch Erichsen (15 February 1842 – 22 August 1916) was a Norwegian bishop and theologian in the Church of Norway. He was Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin from 1899 until shortly before his death in 1916. Life and family Erichsen was born on 15 February 1842 in the city of Kristiansand in Lister og Mandal county in southern Norway. His father was Hans Erichsen, a church worker at the Kristiansand Cathedral, and his mother was Mathilde Sophie Willoch. He went to school and graduated in Kristiansand at the Cathedral School. He received his cand.theol. degree from the Royal Frederick University in 1864. He married Kristiane Sofie Rogstad Boeck in 1869. She died young in 1873, and in 1877 he married Kristiane's younger sister, Helga Marie Margrete Boeck. Frøya, Bremanger
Frøya is an island in the western part of Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island is located just to the southwest of the big island of Bremangerlandet and its highest point is Fanneskarvarden at an elevation of . Almost all the residents of the island live on the southeastern shore. The island contains the main village of Kalvåg as well as the minor settlements of Liset, Steinset, Nesje, Stranda, and Frøyalandet. Frøya is located on the northern side of the Frøysjøen strait, which is part of the seaway between the towns of Florø and Måløy.
