Midland–Odessa Metropolitan Area
Midland–Odessa is a metropolitan area located in West Texas approximately half-way between El Paso, Texas, El Paso and Fort Worth, Texas. This combined statistical area (CSA) is made up of two metropolitan statistical areas (the Midland, Texas metropolitan area, Midland MSA and the Odessa metropolitan area, Texas, Odessa MSA), and comprises three counties: Martin County, Texas, Martin, Midland County, Texas, Midland and Ector County, Texas, Ector counties. The Midland–Odessa CSA is informally known as The Petroplex. In the past, the cities of Midland, Texas, Midland and Odessa, Texas, Odessa experienced a rivalry of bitter competition and political intrigue. Mesquite
Mesquite is a common name for several plants in the genus ''Prosopis'', which contains over 40 species of small leguminous trees. They are native to dry areas in the Americas. They have extremely long roots to seek water from very far under ground. As a legume, mesquites are one of the few sources of fixed nitrogen in the desert habitat. These trees bloom from spring to summer. They often produce fruits known as "pods". ''Prosopis'' spp. are able to grow up to tall, depending on site and climate. The South Plains is a region in northwest Texas, consisting of 24 counties. The main crop is cotton.
