Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Mid Kerry GAA
Mid Kerry is one of the divisions of Kerry Gaelic Athletic Association. It organizes Gaelic football and hurling competitions for the clubs within the division and fields teams in county competitions. The division is based around the town of Killorglin and neighbouring parishes. The division was created in 1947 when Laune Rangers, Castlemaine, Milltown, Tuogh, Glenbeigh and Beaufort broke away from the East Kerry division to create their own competitions. Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. The county football team was the fourth from the province of Munster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), as well as to appear in the final, following Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. Beaufort GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Beaufort, County Kerry, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of Gaelic football. History Located in the village of Beaufort, between Killarney and Killorglin, Beaufort GAA Club was founded in 1929. The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade, however, Kerry IFC titles were claimed in 1980 and again in 2000. Beaufort enjoyed one of its most successful seasons during 2018–19. After claiming the Kerry JFC title, the club subsequently beat Dromtarriffe to win the Munster Club JFC title. On 9 February 2019, Beaufort defeated Easkey by 3–17 to 0–05 in the All-Ireland final. Milltown/Castlemaine GAA Club
Milltown/Castlemaine is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Milltown, County Kerry, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1889, but the exact date is not clear. The club's first appearance in the Kerry Senior Football Championship was the following year. In 1891, Milltown entered two teams. It was the only club to do so. This was a great feat as both teams were composed of 21 players. They had some success with the A team, the Milltown Volunteers, winning a few games, only to be beaten by Laune Rangers. In 1892 the club entered one team. It won the first two games beating Cordal and Tough, only to be defeated by Ballymacelligott. Milltown club then seems to have declined for a few years as it didn't contest the County Championship again until 1900. Laune Rangers is a Gaelic football and Hurling club based in town of Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland. The club is affiliated to Kerry GAA. Rangers won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1996. History The club was formed in 1888 by two teachers. The newly formed club won the Kerry County Championship of 1889 and 1890. In 1890, after again winning the County Championship, Rangers represented Kerry in the All-Ireland series. Impact Of The COVID-19 Pandemic On Gaelic Games
As with other sports, the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruption to Gaelic games, primarily in Ireland but also elsewhere in the world. Competitions were cancelled, postponed or restructured, while some teams were withdrawn or were unable to participate in those competitions that went ahead. The sports (football, hurling, camogie, and ladies' football) saw all competitions suspended from 12 March 2020. The National Hurling League, National Football League, National Camogie League and Ladies' National Football League, which were all running at the time, were suspended, with competitions not intended to resume until 29 March at the earliest. This proved to be an optimistic assumption. Glenbeigh-Glencar GAA
Glenbeigh/Glencar G.A.A Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from the small village of Glenbeigh, near Killorglin in County Kerry. History There are no records of a GAA club in Glenbeigh or Glencar before a mention in 1940 but it is known that football was played in both areas down through the years, and matches took place regularly between teams in different regions of the parish and also with outside opposition. Before the Mid Kerry Board was founded in 1947,Glenbeigh was attached to the East Kerry Board. Glenbeigh won the East Kerry Junior Championship in 1943. Glenbeigh joined the East Kerry board in 1949. East Kerry Senior Football Championship
The East Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for teams affiliated to the East Kerry division. Most adult clubs in the division compete for this cup, even if they are playing at junior or intermediate grades. North Kerry Senior Football Championship
The North Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA clubs affiliated to the North Kerry Division of Kerry GAA, Kerry. The official name of the competition is The Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, in honour of the late Bernie O'Callaghan (Beale) who was Chairman of the North Kerry GAA Board for 25 years (1974 to 1998) and did a huge amount of work for North Kerry football. The Championship runs from October to December each year but has on occasion continued into the New Year due to replays and postponements.
