Short-tailed Pipefish
The short-tailed pipefish (''Microphis brachyurus'') is a species of fish in the family Syngnathidae. It is found in fresh and brackish waters from Sri Lanka and India east to southern Japan and the Society Islands. It inhabits places with little or no current in rivers, streams and estuaries. It formerly included three subspecies, but these are now regarded as separate species: ''Microphis aculeatus'' of the East Atlantic region, '' Microphis lineatus'' of the West Atlantic and Caribbean regions, and '' Microphis millepunctatus'' of the Western Indian Ocean region. Opossum Pipefish
''Microphis lineatus'', the opossum pipefish, is a species of fish in the family Syngnathidae. It is found in fresh, brackish and marine waters in the West Atlantic region, ranging from New Jersey, United States, to São Paulo, Brazil, including the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. It is often found in rivers, among water hyacinth roots, in mangrove and in ''Sargassum''. The opossum pipefish was formerly regarded as a subspecies of ''Microphis brachyurus'' (native to Asia and Oceania), but is now recognized as a full species by both FishBase and Catalog of Fishes. Sunder Lal Hora
Sunder Lal Hora (22 May 1896 – 8 December 1955) was an Indian ichthyologist known for his biogeographic theory on the affinities of Western Ghats and Indomalayan fish forms. Life Hora was born at Hafizabad in the Punjab (modern day Pakistan) on 2 May 1896. He schooled in Jullunder before college at Lahore. He met Thomas Nelson Annandale who visited his college in Lahore in 1919 and was invited to the Zoological Survey of India. In 1921 he became in-charge of ichthyology and herpetology and in 1947 became Superintendent of the Z.S.I. and then Director after Baini Prashad moved to become an advisor to the government. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1929. His proposers were James Hartley Ashworth, John Stephenson, Charles Henry O'Donoghue and James Ritchie. He died on 8 December 1955. Baini Prashad Order of the British Empire, OBE Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, FRSE (13 March 1894 – 18 January 1969) was an Indian zoologist who specialized chiefly in malacology and ichthyology. He served as the first Indian director of the Zoological Survey of India, succeeding R. B. Seymour Sewell, R.B.S. Sewell. He was also a scholar of Persian and took an interest in the history of zoology. Prashad was born at Kartarpur, India, Kirtarpur to ''Rai Sahib'' Devi Das, who was an administrative officer in the government in Punjab.
