Microphis Jagorii
''Microphis'' is a genus of pipefishes (stream pipefishes or river pipefishes) within the family Syngnathidae. Members of this genus are notable among the Syngnathidae for residing in mainly fresh and brackish waters. Adults breed in coastal rivers, streams, or lakes, and fertilized eggs are carried by the male pipefish in a brood pouch extending along his entire ventral surface. Species The currently recognized species in this genus are: * '' Microphis aculeatus'' ( Kaup, 1856) * '' Microphis argulus'' ( W. K. H. Peters, 1855) (flat-nosed pipepfish) * ''Microphis brachyurus'' (Bleeker, 1854) (short-tailed pipefish) * ''Microphis brevidorsalis'' ( de Beaufort, 1913) (stream pipefish) * '' Microphis caudocarinatus'' ( M. C. W. Weber, 1907) (slender pipefish, Tawarin river pipefish) * '' Microphis cruentus'' C. E. Dawson & Fourmanoir, 1981 (Dumbéa River pipefish) * '' Microphis cuncalus'' ( F. Short-tailed Pipefish
The short-tailed pipefish (''Microphis brachyurus'') is a species of fish in the family Syngnathidae. It is found in fresh and brackish waters from Sri Lanka and India east to southern Japan and the Society Islands. It inhabits places with little or no current in rivers, streams and estuaries. It formerly included three subspecies, but these are now regarded as separate species: ''Microphis aculeatus'' of the East Atlantic region, '' Microphis lineatus'' of the West Atlantic and Caribbean regions, and '' Microphis millepunctatus'' of the Western Indian Ocean region. The short-tailed pipefish reaches up to in standard length Fish measurement is the measuring of individual fish and various parts of their anatomies. These data are used in many areas of ichthyology, including taxonomy and fisheries biology. Overall length * Standard length (SL) is the length of a fish m .... Opossum Pipefish
''Microphis lineatus'', the opossum pipefish, is a species of fish in the family Syngnathidae. It is found in fresh, brackish and marine waters in the West Atlantic region, ranging from New Jersey, United States, to São Paulo, Brazil, including the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. It is often found in rivers, among water hyacinth roots, in mangrove and in ''Sargassum''. The opossum pipefish was formerly regarded as a subspecies of ''Microphis brachyurus'' (native to Asia and Oceania), but is now recognized as a full species by both FishBase and Catalog of Fishes. Furthermore, it is possible that full-freshwater populations currently included in the opossum pipefish represent a separate species. In the United States, the opossum pipefish is considered a species of concern by the National Marine Fisheries Service.U.S. National Marine Fisheries ServiceSpecies of Concern Due to uncertainty about its taxonomy and vulnerability to habitat destruction, it is considered data deficient by ...

''Microphis deocata'', also known as the rainbow belly pipefish or deocata pipefish, is a species of fish belonging to the family Syngnathidae. This freshwater species can be found in the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers in India and Bangladesh. Its diet likely consists of insect larvae and small crustaceans. Reproduction occurs through ovoviviparity Ovoviviparity, ovovivipary, ovivipary, or aplacental viviparity is a term used as a "bridging" form of reproduction between egg-laying oviparous and live-bearing viviparous reproduction. Ovoviviparous animals possess embryos that develop insi ... in which males brood eggs before giving live birth. ''Microphis deocata'' is currently considered a near threatened species likely due to the effect of hydrological alterations on their freshwater habitat as well as overfishing, pollution, sedimentation, and invasive species.
