Mickten
Mickten is a quarter (''Stadtteil'') of the city of Dresden, eastern Germany. It is part of the northwestern borough (''Stadtbezirk'') of Pieschen. The historic village at the road to Leipzig north of the Elbe river was incorporated into Dresden in 1903. From 1990 a new commercial area between Mickten and the neighbouring ''Kaditz'' quarter was developed including the ''Elbe Park'' mall with numerous shops and a cinema. The infrastructure of Mickten was severely damaged by the 2002 Elbe floods. SG Mickten were a association football, football club from the Mickten district of Dresden. They were a predecessor side to the modern Dresdner SC, not to be confused with the original Dresdner SC that won some national titles before World War II. They were a Stasi sponsored team like most Dresdner teams back then and East German teams. They never managed to win any trophies though. Dresden is a large city in the eastern German Free State of Saxony nearby the border to the Czech Republic at the river Elbe. The geography and urban development of Dresden is embossed by the valley location and by the Elbe stream. Geography Location Dresden lies on both banks of the river Elbe, mostly in the Dresden Basin, with the further reaches of the eastern Ore Mountains to the south, the steep slope of the Lusatian granitic crust to the north and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to the east at an elevation of about 113 metres. 2002 European Floods
In August 2002, a week of intense rainfall produced flooding across a large portion of Europe. It reached the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine and Russia. The event killed 232 people and left (US$27.115 billion) in damage. The flood was of a magnitude expected to occur roughly once a century. Unprecedented flood heights were recorded and at least 110 people died.
