Mickey Walker (golfer)
Carol Michelle Walker (born 17 December 1952) is an English professional golfer. Life Walker was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She won the Hovis International in 1972. She turned professional in 1973 and played on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour from 1974 to 1981. Her best finish was a T-2 at the 1976 Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Classic where she lost a four-player playoff to Sandra Palmer. Walker was a founding member of the Ladies European Tour and won six times on the tour between 1979 and 1984. Walker was Europe's Solheim Cup captain the first four times the Cup was held (1990, 1992, 1994 and 1996), captaining Europe to its first victory in the competition in 1992. She coached the Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team in 1994, 1996 and 1998. She has been appointed captain of the 2019 European team for the Junior Solheim Cup at Gleneagles. 1971 European Ladies' Team Championship
The 1971 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 30 June – 3 July at Ganton Golf Club, in Ganton, North Yorkshire, England. It was the seventh women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1891 and the course was initially designed by Tom Chisholm and Robert Bird, later modified by different course architects, including James Braid, Alister MacKenzie, Harry Colt, John Henry Taylor, and Harry Vardon. It previously hosted the 1949 Ryder Cup and the 1964 Amateur Championship. The course was set up with par 75 over 6,289 yards, with 38 on the front nine holes and 37 on the back nine. European Ladies' Team Championship
The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay. Only teams in contention for a medal will play a match format of two foursomes and five singles, while the other teams will play a one foursome and four singles match format. 1984 Ladies European Tour
The 1984 Ladies European Tour was the fifth season of golf tournaments administered by the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) on behalf of the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). In the second season of PGA administration, the tour saw the addition of several new tournaments with the format of most being changed to 72-holes stroke play, having been mostly 54 and 36-hole events previously. In total, there were 21 tournaments on the schedule, including the return of the Women's British Open, organised by the Ladies' Golf Union and one of two tournaments co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour, along with the Ladies Irish Open. The Order of Merit was won by Dale Reid, who dominated the season with two tournament victories and five runner-up finishes. The 1983 Ladies European Tour was the fifth season of golf tournaments organised on behalf of the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). There were 17 tournaments on the schedule. There was a major organisational change from the end of the 1982 season, which ended with the future of the tour in doubt after several tournaments were cancelled. Following action in the High Court, the departure of executive director Barry Edwards, who was also responsible for the tour's marketing, was secured, and administration of the tour was taken over by the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA). The new executive director of the WPGA was Colin Snape, who had previously been a director at the PGA. There were 13 tournaments on the schedule including four Carlsberg sponsored events and the Women's British Open, organised by the Ladies' Golf Union. For the 1982 season, the majority of tournaments were increased to 54-holes, having previously been held over 36-holes. This included the Carlsberg events, which were reduced in number, from ten down to four, in order to increase the prize funds at each event. Total prize money on the tour was planned to rise to £250,000 in 1981, but the tour suffered financially during the season as several tournaments were cancelled after sponsors withdrew their support. The 1980 Ladies European Tour was the second season of golf tournaments organised by the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). The tour was principally sponsored by Carlsberg, who organised ten 36-hole tournaments counting towards their own Order of Merit. There were eleven other tournaments on the schedule including the Women's British Open, organised by the Ladies' Golf Union.
