Michigan Promise Scholarship
The Michigan Promise Scholarship was a merit-based scholarship program in the state of Michigan that provided up to $4,000 towards post-secondary education at any approved Michigan institution to qualifying Michigan high school graduates. The full amount was reserved for students attending at least two-year programs. History In 1999, Michigan legislature enacted in Public Act 94 the Michigan Merit Award. Designed to benefit graduating seniors between 2000 and 2006, it granted up to $3,000.00 to students who performed exceptionally well on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program tests. On December 21, 2006, Governor Granholm signed Public Act 479 establishing the Michigan Promise Scholarship to replace that award. A scholarship is a form of financial aid awarded to students for further education. Generally, scholarships are awarded based on a set of criteria such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, and financial need. Michigan Educational Assessment Program
The Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) was a standardized test. The test was taken by all public school students in the U.S. state of Michigan from elementary school to middle/ junior high school from the 1969–70 school year to the 2013–14 school year. For high school students the MEAP test was replaced in the 2006–07 school year by the Michigan Merit Exam., . The test was replaced in the 2014–15 school year by the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP. The tests have high content validity with respect to the subject specific curriculum for the particular grade level in the State of Michigan. Michigan Merit Examination
The Michigan Merit Exam (MME) is a replacement for the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) test, a minimum-competency test for high school students. It was optional for class of 2007 (i.e., it could be taken instead of the MEAP) but was required for the class of 2008 and beyond. The MME is used to measure "Adequate yearly progress" as required under the No Child Left Behind Act. Part of the MME is the SAT (originally, the MME included the ACT from 2007 to 2015). In addition, there are Michigan-specific sections, including one on social studies and science, known as the M-STEP, and the WorkKeys test. Juniors are generally not expected to attend afternoon classes after completion of Michigan Merit Exam, though some exceptions do exist.
