Vern Ehlers
Vernon James Ehlers (February 6, 1934 – August 15, 2017) was an American physicist and politician who represented Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 until his retirement in 2011. A Republican, he also served eight years in the Michigan Senate and two in the Michigan House of Representatives. Ehlers was the first research physicist to be elected to Congress; he was later joined by Rush Holt, Jr. ( D- NJ) and Bill Foster ( D- IL). 2018 Michigan House Of Representatives Election
An election was held on November 6, 2018 to elect all 110 members to Michigan's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor and Senate. The primary election was held on August 7, 2018. Republicans retained control of the House, despite losing the popular vote, after a net loss of five seats, winning 58 seats compared to 52 seats for the Democrats. Term-limited members Under the Michigan Constitution, members of the state Senate are able to serve only two four-year terms, and members of the House of Representatives are limited to three two-year terms, some of the toughest term-limit laws in the country. After the 2018 mid-term elections, nearly 70 percent of the state Senate and 20 percent of the state House were forced to leave office because of term-limits. DeWitt Charter Township is a charter township of Clinton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 14,321 at the 2010 census, which was an increase from 12,143 at the 2000 census. Thomas L. Leonard III (born April 20, 1981) is an American attorney and politician. He is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives who served as Speaker of the House from 2017 to 2019. Elected in 2012 to succeed term-limited Paul Opsommer, Leonard represented the residents of Clinton and Gratiot County. Prior to that, he worked as a prosecutor. DeWitt is a city in Clinton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,507 at the 2010 census. The city is located north of Interstate 69 and west of U.S. Route 127, just north of the city of Lansing. History DeWitt was named after DeWitt Clinton, Governor of New York during the 1820s. It was first settled by Captain David Scott, who moved there from Ann Arbor in 1833, and platted the land. The State Legislature formally created DeWitt Township on March 23, 1836.
