Tom Leonard (Michigan Politician)
Thomas L. Leonard III (born April 20, 1981) is an American attorney and politician. He is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives who served as Speaker of the House from 2017 to 2019. Elected in 2012 to succeed term-limited Paul Opsommer, Leonard represented the residents of Clinton and Gratiot County. Prior to that, he worked as a prosecutor. Leonard unsuccessfully ran for Michigan Attorney General in 2018 and was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. Early life and education Leonard has a bachelor's degree in History and Spanish from the University of Michigan. Leonard received his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. 2016 Michigan House Of Representatives Election
An election was held on November 8, 2016 to elect all 110 members to Michigan's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including U.S. President, U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The primary election was held on August 2, 2016. There was no change in the composition of the House as Republicans retained control, winning 63 seats compared to 47 seats for the Democrats. The 2012 Michigan House of Representatives elections were held on November 6, 2012, with partisan primaries to select the parties' nominees in the various districts on August 7, 2012. Due to gerrymandering, the Republican Party retained its majority in the House of Representatives despite losing the popular vote. Rep. Roy Schmidt scandal State Representative Roy Schmidt was defeated for re-election after assisting in engineering an election-rigging scandal by which he switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party and recruited a straw candidate to run as a Democrat in order to ensure a swift re-election. Alan Cropsey
Alan Lee Cropsey (born June 13, 1952) is an American lawyer and politician who served as a member of both houses of the Michigan Legislature between 1979 and 2010. He is a member of the Republican Party. Early life and education Cropsey was born in Paw Paw, Michigan, the son of Harmon G. Cropsey, who was a member of the state house of representatives from the 42nd district, 1981–1982; and of the state senate from the 21st district, 1983–1990. Cropsey holds a B.S. in mathematics education from Bob Jones University and a J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School.
