Michigan's 71st House of Representatives district (also referred to as Michigan's 71st House district) is a legislative district within the Michigan House of Representatives located in parts of Genesee County, Michigan, Genesee, Saginaw County, Michigan, Saginaw and Shiawassee County, Michigan, Shiawassee counties. The district was created in 1965, when the Michigan House of Representatives district naming scheme changed from a county-based system to a numerical one. Sal Rocca
Sal Rocca (October 29, 1946 – December 13, 2020) was an Italian-born American politician who served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives for several years, as well as serving a few terms as a member of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. He made an unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination for the Michigan Senate district in Sterling Heights and areas north, losing to Dave Jaye in the 1998 primary. Rocca's son Tory Rocca later represented the district previously represented by his father. Early life Rocca was born in Casalvieri, Lazio, Italy, to Virginia and Ororio Rocca. When Rocca was six, his family moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. At age 13, he immigrated with his family to the United States, settling in Detroit, Michigan. Potterville, Michigan
Potterville is a city in Eaton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,617 at the 2010 census. History Potterville is named after Linus Potter, who settled his family in the area in November, 1844. Linus was elected supervisor of Benton Township in 1846. In 1830, Linus and his wife Diantha came from Cayuga County, New York, by way of the Erie Canal, to Buffalo and then by way of Lake Erie steamboat to Detroit. From there, Linus and Diantha walked to Plymouth, Michigan, a journey of about thirty miles, before walking on to Saline. The pair carried their three-year-old son, George, and their infant daughter, Louisa. Potterville incorporated as a village within Benton Township in 1881, and as a city in 1962 withdrawing it completely from the township. Tom Barrett (Michigan Politician)
Thomas More Barrett (born April 30, 1981) is an American politician serving as a member of the Michigan Senate from the 24th district. A Republican, he previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. Prior to his election to the House, Barrett served as a liaison between the Michigan Department of Treasury and the office of the Governor of Michigan. Theresa Abed is an American politician from Michigan. Abed was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, serving during the 2013–2014 session. Education Abed earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University. Career Abed has a background as a social worker. Charlotte, Michigan
Charlotte ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 9,074. It is the county seat of Eaton County. Charlotte is in the central portion of the county, on the boundary between Eaton Township and Carmel Township, though politically independent of both. Deb Shaughnessy (born December 19, 1960) is a former Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives and mayor of Charlotte. Grand Ledge is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city lies mostly within Eaton County, though a small portion extends into Clinton County to the north.
