Deb Shaughnessy
Deb Shaughnessy (born December 19, 1960) is a former Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives and mayor of Charlotte. An alumna of Lansing Community College, Shaughnessy worked for the Michigan Department of Treasury and several legislators, including House Speaker Paul Hillegonds and Senate Majority Leader Dick Posthumus. She was elected to the Charlotte city council in 2001, and served as mayor from 2005 through 2009. She had also been a newspaper writer. Paul Hillegonds
Paul C. Hillegonds (born March 4, 1949) was a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He served as co-speaker with Democrat Curtis Hertel from 1993 until 1994. Hillegonds received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Hillegonds was first elected to the state house in 1978, beginning his service in 1979. He previously had been a legislative aid and campaign chairman for U.S. Representative Philip Ruppe. He was the leader of the Republicans in the house beginning in 1987. He served as speaker of the house from 1995-1996, after having been co-speaker for one term. In 1997 Hillegonds left the legislature to become president of Detroit Renaissance. He remained in this position for nine years. Dick Posthumus
Richard Posthumus (; born July 19, 1950) is an American businessman, and politician. He was the 61st Lieutenant Governor of Michigan and majority leader of the Michigan Senate. In 2002, he was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for Governor of Michigan. Posthumus grew up on a dairy farm in Alto, Michigan, outside of Grand Rapids. He graduated from Michigan State University, during which he served as chairman of the College Republicans and as a vice chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. In 1971, he managed the successful Michigan House of Representatives campaign of fellow student and future Michigan governor John Engler. Posthumus was elected to the Senate in 1982 and became majority leader in 1990, when Engler was elected governor. His 1982 campaign was managed by Saul Anuzis.
