Michigan's 6th Senate District
Michigan's 6th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Mary Cavanagh since 2023, succeeding fellow Democrat Erika Geiss. Geography District 6 encompasses parts of Oakland and Wayne counties. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 6, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, covered much of Downriver to the southwest of Detroit in Wayne County, including the suburban communities of Westland, Taylor, Romulus, Rockwood, Flat Rock, Huron, Sumpter, Van Buren, Belleville, and most of Brownstown. Mary Cavanagh
Mary Cavanagh (born 1991) is an American politician serving as a Democratic Party member of the Michigan House of Representatives from the 10th district. Elected in 2020 while attending college at Wayne State University, she assumed office on January 1, 2021. Early life and education Cavanagh was born in Redford Township, Michigan to parents Phil Cavanagh and Lily Cavanagh. In December 2020, Cavanagh earned a bachelor's degree in physical anthropology from Wayne State University. She is the granddaughter of Detroit mayor Jerome Cavanaugh who served from 1962-1970. Career Cavanagh was an AmeriCorps member, and also served as a precinct delegate for Redford Township; a board member of the Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus; and as director of the New Start Construction Company. The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. Michigan's 13th Congressional District
Michigan's 13th congressional district is a United States congressional district in Wayne County, Michigan. It is currently represented by Democrat Shri Thanedar. The district includes portions of Detroit and some of its suburbs, and it was the only congressional district in Michigan to be contained within a single county in the 2012 redistricting. District boundaries were redrawn in 1993 and 2003 due to reapportionment following the censuses of 1990 and 2000.
