Lars-Henrik Paarup Michelsen (born 23 April 1981) is a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. He was leader of the party's youth wing, Young Liberals of Norway, from 2003 to 2007. He served as deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from Hordaland during the term 2005–2009. Background Michelsen hails from Austevoll municipality in Hordaland on the south-western coast of Norway. He has studied comparative politics at the University of Bergen. For one year he worked as a volunteer for the Strømme Foundation in Uganda. He has served his civilian service for Bergen Turlag, a member organization of the Norwegian Trekking Association. Michelsen Island
Michelsen Island is a small island in the South Orkney Islands off Antarctica. It is joined to the southern end of Powell Island by a narrow isthmus of occasionally submerged boulders. The island was first observed and roughly mapped in 1821 by Captains George Powell and Nathaniel Palmer. It was named on a map by Captain Petter Sørlle, a Norwegian whaler who made a running survey of the South Orkney Islands in 1912–13. Important Bird Area The island lies within an Antarctic Specially Protected Area ( ASPA 111). It is also part of the Southern Powell Island and adjacent islands Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because it supports significant seabird breeding colonies. Michelsen Farmstead
The Andreas Michelsen Farmstead was originally built as a two-room house in 1902 by Andreas himself. In 1912 an addition was added to the home, making seven rooms in total, and little has changed since. The homestead consists of a 1 1/2-story Victorian-style farmhouse with a wraparound porch, and various outbuildings including a barn, granary, calving shed, coal shed, machine shed, storage cellar, corrals and pens, and an outhouse. Landscape elements on the property include a dugout, cistern and filter, and garden. The farmstead is located at the corner of 2nd Avenue & 6th Street, on the west half of four blocks in the northwest corner of the National Historic Site of Stirling, Alberta. The home remained in the Michelsen family until 1995 when the village, in partnership with the Stirling Historical Society, bought the homestead to turn into an interpretative center.
