Michelle Coombs
Michelle Lynn Coombs is a geologist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO). She was the Scientist-in-Charge from 2016 to 2023. Coombs is a fellow of the Geological Society of America. Michelle is originally from Maine, where Coombs is a common last name. Career Coombs was the Scientist-in-Charge (SIC) of AVO from 2016 to 2023. As the SIC, she was in charge of coordinating emergency responses to volcanic eruptions, and guides the process of monitoring volcanic activity in Alaska. She is frequently quoted in the news as a subject-matter expert on volcanoes in and around Alaska. As the SIC, she was also the main contact from the media to AVO. Alaska Volcano Observatory
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) is a joint program of the United States Geological Survey, the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the State of Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (ADGGS). AVO was formed in 1988, and uses federal, state, and university resources to monitor and study Alaska's volcanology, hazardous volcanoes, to predict and record eruptive activity, and to mitigate volcanic hazards to life and property. The Observatory website allows users to monitor active volcanoes, with seismographs and webcameras that update regularly. AVO now monitors more than 20 volcanoes in Cook Inlet, which is close to Alaskan population centers, and the Aleutian Arc due to the hazard that plumes of ash pose to aviation. A volcano observatory is an institution that conducts research and monitoring of a volcano. Terry Keith
Terry E. C. Keith is a geologist from the U.S. Geological Survey and former Scientist-in-Charge of the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Career Keith served as the Scientist-in-Charge (SIC) of the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) from . She is one of two women to serve as Alaska SIC, the other one being Michelle Coombs. During her tenure at AVO, she was a mentor to Coombs. KINY
KINY (800 AM) is a full service formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Juneau, Alaska, serving Alaska Panhandle. KINY is owned and operated by Alaska Broadcast Communications. History KINY began broadcasting on May 31, 1935, at 7:30 PM. It was located in the Goldstein Building until 1939, when the building was destroyed by fire on February 8, 1939. The Decker Building in downtown Juneau then served as KINY's headquarters for decades. The station moved into the building on October 28, 1940. The Decker Building burned down in June 1984. WCSH (channel 6) is a television station in Portland, Maine, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Tegna Inc. The station's studios are located on Congress Square in Downtown Portland, and its transmitter is located on Winn Mountain in Sebago. WLBZ (channel 2) in Bangor operates as a semi-satellite of WCSH. This station clears all network programming as provided by its parent, simulcasts most of WCSH's newscasts (with local weather inserts) and airs most of its syndicated programming (though in some cases at different times).
