Michalis Kaltezas
Michalis Kaltezas (; 19 June 1970 – 17 November 1985) was a 15-year-old Greek protester who was shot at the back of his head by a police officer during the annual 17 November protests. The police officer was sentenced to two years imprisonment, but he appealed and was declared innocent. Melistas defense lawyer was Alexandros Lykourezos; the plaintiff attorneys were Nikos Konstantopoulos and Fotis Kouvelis. ''Ta Nea'' ( el, Τα Νέα, italic=yes; Translation: ''The News'') is a daily newspaper published in Athens. It was owned by Lambrakis Press Group (DOL), which also published the newspaper ''To Vima''. The assets of DOL were acquired in 2017 by Alter Ego Media S.A. The newspaper began publishing in 1931 under the title (''Athinaika Nea'', ''Athens News''), with the first issue being released on May 28. After the Axis occupation of Greece, it changed its name simply to "Ta Nea". ''Ta Nea'' has been Greek's best-selling newspaper for decades, although the internet and the financial crisis have affected its circulation. Nikos Konstantopoulos (; born 8 June 1942 in Krestena, Elis) is a Greek politician, member of the Hellenic Parliament and former president of the left-wing Synaspismos. His daughter, Zoi, was until September 2015 the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament. Biography Born in 1942 in the village of Krestena, near Olympia, Konstantopoulos studied law in the University of Athens. During his period as a law student he became actively involved in the student movement as a member of the Center Union. During the Greek military junta of 1967-1974, his ideas became more radical. He was a member of the Democratic Defense anti-junta resistance group. He was arrested, tortured and sentenced in 8 years of imprisonment by the regime in 1970. Fotis Kouvelis
Fotis-Fanourios Kouvelis ( el, Φώτης-Φανούριος Κουβέλης; born 3 September 1948) is a Greek lawyer and leftist politician. Biography Kouvelis was born in Volos. He studied law and political science at the University of Athens. A member of Lambrakis Youth, he was a founding member of the Communist Party of Greece (Interior), serving, from 1975 until the party's demise, on its central committee. He was a founding member of the Greek Left party, in 1987, and was elected its general secretary on 25 June 1989, remaining in this position until 1992. He was Minister for Justice in the 1989 government of Tzannis Tzannetakis. Kouvelis was long time MP from 1989 until 2019.
