Michal Novotný (curator)
Michal Novotný (born 1985) is a Czech art curator, critic and writer. He is the Director of the Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art at National Gallery Prague. Biography Novotný studied art history, philosophy, and anthropology at Charles University in Prague. Novotný's researches focus on the question of central-eastern Europe identity and how the notion of quality art is constructed in regard of the material conditions. These researches transcribed themselves into the serie of Orient exhibitions as much as his dramaturgy at Futura Center of Contemporary art. Novotný served as director of the Centre for Contemporary Art FUTURA in Prague from 2011 to 2018. In 2016, the website Artsy listed him as among the 20 most influential young curators in Europe. The National Gallery Prague ( cz, Národní galerie Praha, NGP), formerly the National Gallery in Prague (), is a state-owned art gallery in Prague, which manages the largest collection of art in the Czech Republic and presents masterpieces of Czech and international fine art in permanent and temporary exhibitions. Artsy, formally known as Art.sy Inc is a New York City based online art brokerage. Its main business is developing and hosting website for numerous galleries as well as selling art for them. It utilizes a search engine and database to draw connections and map relationships among works of art. The brokerage was founded by Carter Cleveland, a Princeton University computer science graduate. It is currently led by Mike Steib, a former CEO of XO Group, the parent company of The Knot. Artsy has received financial backing from multiple investors.
