Michael Weinius
Michael Weinius (born 1 March 1971 in Stockholm) is a Swedish operatic tenor. After winning first prize at the 2008 international Wagner competition in Seattle, Weinius has quickly established himself as one of Europe's most sought after tenors. Education and early years Weinius received his first musical training at the Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm and then studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, receiving his exam in 1995. He made his international debut as a baritone in the role of Guglielmo in ''Così fan tutte'' and quickly became a regular guest at the Swedish opera houses in roles such as Renato/Greve Holberg in ''Un ballo in maschera'', Posa in Don Carlos and Marcello in ''La bohème''. Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra ( sv, Kungliga Filharmonikerna or , literal translations, "Royal Philharmonic" or "Royal Philharmonic Orchestra") is a Swedish orchestra based in Stockholm. Its principal venue is the Konserthuset. History The orchestra was founded in 1902 as the Stockholm Concert Society Orchestra (''Stockholms konsertförenings orkester''). It became a permanent ensemble in 1914. Since 1926, it has been based at Stockholm Concert Hall (''Konserthuset''). Starting in 1937, Radiotjänst (now Swedish Radio) utilized the orchestra as its main broadcast orchestra, in lieu of having its own in-house orchestra. Karlstad Cathedral (Swedish: ''Karlstads domkyrka'') is a cathedral in Karlstad, Sweden. The church is located in the middle of Karlstad on Lagberget on Tingvalla island. It belongs to Karlstad Cathedral Parish of the Diocese of Karlstad of the Church of Sweden. History There has been a church on the site since the 1300s. That church was burned down together with virtually the entire city in 1616. Subsequently rebuilt, Karlstad became a cathedral in 1647 when Queen Christina (1626–1689) established the Diocese of Karlstad. That church also burned down in 1719. A new church was erected in 1723–1730 at Lagberget on Tingvalla Island, under the direction of Superintendent Johannes Steuchius (1676–1742) who later became Archbishop. ''Otello'' () is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play ''Othello''. ''Tosca'' is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It premiered at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 14 January 1900. The work, based on Victorien Sardou's 1887 French-language dramatic play, ''La Tosca'', is a melodramatic piece set in Rome in June 1800, with the Kingdom of Naples's control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's Campaigns of 1800 in the French Revolutionary Wars#Italy, invasion of Italy. It contains depictions of torture, murder, and suicide, as well as some of Puccini's best-known lyrical arias. ''Salome'', Op. 54, is an opera in one act by Richard Strauss. The libretto is Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of the 1891 French play '' Salomé'' by Oscar Wilde, edited by the composer. Strauss dedicated the opera to his friend Sir Edgar Speyer. The opera is famous (at the time of its premiere, infamous) for its " Dance of the Seven Veils". The final scene is frequently heard as a concert-piece for dramatic sopranos. Composition history Oscar Wilde originally wrote his ''Salomé'' in French. ''La fanciulla del West'' (''The Girl of the West'') is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by and , based on the 1905 play '' The Girl of the Golden West'' by the American author David Belasco. ''Fanciulla'' followed ''Madama Butterfly'', which was also based on a Belasco play. The opera has fewer of the show-stopping highlights that characterize Puccini's other works, but is admired for its impressive orchestration and for a score that is more melodically integrated than is typical of his previous work. Kent George Nagano GOQ, MSM (born November 22, 1951) is an American conductor and opera administrator. Since 2015, he has been Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and was Music Director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2020. Early life and education Nagano was born in Berkeley, California, while his parents were in graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a ''sansei'' (third-generation) Japanese-American. He grew up in Morro Bay, a city located on the Central Coast of California in San Luis Obispo County. He studied sociology and music at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After graduation, he moved to San Francisco State University to study music.
