Michael Rogers (blogger)
Michael Rogers (born November 12, 1963) is an American fundraiser, blogger and gay rights activist. He is vice chairman of Raw Story Media, Inc., co-owner of Alternet Media, and founder and Director of Netroots Connect. He is also known for his work in reporting on closeted gay politicians who are anti-gay. He was the subject of the 2009 American documentary film '' Outrage.'' History and education Rogers was born to a Jewish family, raised in suburban New York City in Rockland County, NY, and attended public schools. Rogers attended Ramapo Senior High School in Spring Valley, NY. He attended Adelphi University (1982) and the University of Buffalo (also known as the State University of New York at Buffalo) (1983-1986), where he majored in political science. Spring Valley, NY
Spring Valley is a village in the towns of Ramapo and Clarkstown in Rockland County, New York, United States. It is located north of Chestnut Ridge, east of Airmont and Monsey, south of Hillcrest, and west of Nanuet. The population was 33,066 at the 2020 census, making it the 2nd most populous community in Rockland County, after New City. Spring Valley spans the border of two towns, occupying an eastern portion of the town of Ramapo and a small western portion of the town of Clarkstown. The village is next to the New York State Thruway ( Interstate 87) and is served by a New Jersey Transit train station at the terminus of the Pascack Valley Line. Stop The Church
Stop the Church was a demonstration organized by members of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) on December 10, 1989, that disrupted a Mass being said by Cardinal John O'Connor at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. One-hundred and eleven protesters were arrested, 53 of whom were arrested inside the church. The main objective of the demonstration was to protest O'Connor's opposition to the teaching of safe sex in the public school system, and his opposition to the distribution of condoms to curb the spread of AIDS. During planning, the protest was joined by Women's Health Action and Mobilization (WHAM!), who opposed the Catholic position on abortion rights. The protest was condemned in media editorials and by national figures such as President George H. W. Bush, and was controversial in the gay community.
